yankeedawg1, a lot has changed since we changed head coaches, and those that he (we) need to be successful.
Right, wrong or otherwise, Kirby Smart understood the need for a offensive line coach.
Have read a lot of "theories" about why Coach Pittman is our offensive line coach. Do know this after reading a lot of "football history". Sam wants big, strong players that can and will take care of their "gaps". Not talking defensive football, offensive line also understands "gaps". Football has not changed that much over the last few years. Big, strong linemen can win battles in a short 3 to 5 yard "gap".Move folks back on the snap, for sure running backs like UGA has had over many years, stats that pay off when the NFL comes calling. Regardless of how Coach Sam Pittman arrived, it was needed in Athens.
Takes me to this . . . .

My opinion . . . . Single biggest mistake by Mark Richt was not understanding the value of a offensive line. Of course Richt riding the bench his entire career, what did he know about offensive line play? Watching Richt closely now, he is doing everything different at the "U". Fool he is not. Mark Richt knew when leaving UGA that he was going to be hired by the "U" and that is a football hot bed. Will always be just that. Dollars were also there. Like I said, Richt is no fool, understands the value of a dollar.
Coach Stacy Searels understood that while coaching for Richt in Athens he needed the same thing that Coach Sam Pittman is doing. Did not have Richt's ear, Bobo had Richt's ear. Richt was not looking for every "large" offensive lineman he could recruit and possibly sign. Suspect that soon Bobo will be looking for employment, there is chatter.
Care less what the media has to say about 2017 and UGA falling short. Our offensive line is going to be a plus + 10 or so over last years offensive line. Sony and Chubb returned for a reason. FANS will be rewarded in 2017. Bet that.
We have running backs and offensive linemen. Need the quarterback position to step up. My opinion . . . . along with COACHING.
