Not a lot of doubt in my mind that Georgia defensively has made major changes since hiring Jeremy Pruitt, and his returning to Alabama.
Expect to see our defense to continue to improve, one reason, the young men that were recruited by Pruitt and Company. Statistics over the two years under Pruitt and Company prove that to be true. Smart and Company can and will continue along the same path that some of these young men understand.
A plus for our new coaches on defense. They can recruit in a particular way to build depth and also do what Saban has done in Alabama since his arrival back to the SEC. Often it has been said that Nick Saban had only to “plug and play”. That has not been the case in Athens prior to the “changeover”.
Smart and Company will do some things differently, we know that. Suspect that Kirby is happy with what Jeremy left him on the defense.
My thinking is as has been said, the hiring of the offensive coordinator and the offensive line coach, along with an up and coming running back coach and receivers coach with a lot of experience was a great move in hiring coaches. Leadership from the new offensive coaches will enable Smart to do what he “needs” to do, and “will” . . . . lead.
Not like the offense is barren. The talent on that side of the ball is enormous. Coaches on that side will start what I believe to be a bit more of a “journey”. Believe the new coaches will do the same thing that the defense had a head start on, building depth. Understandable that the coaches want larger and longer offensive players. Can already see that changes are being made in the recruitment of offensive linemen. Offensive line might be a year or so behind the defense as a whole. Good news is . . . . it is being addressed.
2016 Season we will see changes in improvement game after game. Of that, I have zero doubts.
There is a lot of “buzz” right now about how many young men are looking closer at what the University of Georgia has to offer. Scholastically, it has been in Athens forever. Athletically (football) you be the judge, I have given my opinion a “couple” of times.
