Sam Pittman's Offensive Lines

Feel sure that most members on Dawgs.com are as interested in our offensive line as I am. Been known to discuss offensive lines for a period of time, as have others on this site.

As SouthernDawg said in another thread, Kirby Smart arrived in Athens with "guns blazing". Fact of the matter is, he did.

One of Kirby's first hires was Sam Pittman, caused quite a stir on the Arkansas Campus. Razorbacks understood what they were losing, Kirby Smart knew what "we" were gaining. It was time for a stand up head coach. We got one, along with Sam Pittman, another stand up coach. Did not allow Bret Bielema to intimidate him when it came time to choose. Everyone knows that episode.

Kirby Smart again in my estimation is going to be a very good head coach for this reason, one of the reasons . . . . He has a game plan and that game plan in heavily controlled by those that choose to coach "with" him. Missing link in Athens for x (you choose) number of years. Kirby Smart wants and will demand success through himself and his staff. That will also be felt by those above him. I believe that.

Take a look if you have not before. The offensive linemen on the Arkansas football team are there because . . . . Sam Pittman recruited them. Fact. Kirby Smart did not enjoy playing his defense in Alabama against them. Fact.

Posted this before, as I sometimes mention, never hurts to take another look.

Offensive line that has leadership, not only from the offensive line coach, but the offensive coordinator and head coach . . . . has "never" happened in the past 15 years (and before). Fact is, these three coaches are on the "SAME PAGE". Quite frankly, when there was a problem before, only one remained standing . . . . Mark Richt. Another FACT, added that for the "Bleeding Hearts" that seem to be disappearing.

What is not to be positive about. Smart and Company actually understand what needs to be done as SouthernDawg laid out so well, as have others like long time leaders of the band on Dawgs.com . . . . Naming three that started a long time back . . . .kentdaddy, sadlerdawg, NC_Dawg. Many joined in after they joined. A very long list on Dawgs.com. exists today.

Watching the video on Kindley, not so much impressed with "pancakes". This is high school and "size does make a difference".

Have some friends that I chat with and one thing that I know they recognize is . . . . Kindley has great movement, weight shift from his "hips to his feet". Some offensive tackles that the press likes to talk about is their arm length, that is a good thing, seems that is all many of them think they know. Extra long arms are a plus, but when you are talking about moving the "pile", "motor grader", running backs love this type of lineman.

Bet this, Kindley will get playing time in 2016, maybe more than some expect. Really has his hips balanced over his feet, he will move college linemen also this year.

Coach Smart said again, all jobs are open. Seem to remember Pruitt saying that, soon after Pruitt said that, Richt began to use the same language. Some lead, others follow.

growl seem to remember you mentioning being upset with the offensive coaches not using Marshall more at both running back and receiving the football from the slot, or wherever. Think I am right. I am easily corrected.

Also remember the coaching staff giving up on Columbus, Georgia athletes. Allow me to rephrase that . . . . not going to Columbus, Georgia on the annual tour of recruiting possibilities. That my Brothers was a decision made by the "Head Coach", recently departed.

This is what Sermon had to say about McGee and Chaney in the article below.

“The new staff is recruiting me a lot harder than the other staff,” said Sermon, who plans to enroll early. “(UGA running backs coach) Dell McGee seems like a great guy and a great mentor. I got a good vibe from him the first time I met him.”


UGA, like most schools, told him that they will sign two backs this year. Sermon also described UGA offensive coordinator Jim Chaney as “pretty funny.” Chaney hoped to use him at running back and slot receiver.

Allow me this . . . . Head Coach Kirby Smart hired Dell McGee for one reason . . . . he is another of the high school coaches, especially in Georgia that need to move up the coaching ladder.

Reading the article below, thought I was again reading what has been said on Dawgs.com since the change over in Athens.
