Guys, this is going to be a big deal in a couple years if they don't make the stipend the same across the board. These kids are even admitting the COA will not be used to attend the college, but to send back home. This will make what SMU did back in the day look like child's play if they don't resolve it.

Take a poor kid. Only mamma at home with 4 siblings. Kid wants to stay in the state of Alabama. AU can freely write a check for $600 a month to the kid while Bama can only write a check for $475........kid is going to AU. Bama will "find a loophole"...and then the scandals will start.......................

BulldogShannon,

Thumbs up. Totally agree.

This is one of several disparate issues that the conference needs to solve across the board, and they need to do it soon. Brett Bielema is already on record saying he uses COA stipends as a "closing" recruiting tool. Why this hasn't been leveled across the board is beyond me. How this can be considered fair is beyond me.

The other issue is the substance abuse & drug testing policy. When you have schools that turn a blind eye to smoking a little weed and impose a disciplinary hold out for a half or whatever, versus Georgia under Richt that suspends the player and pretty much put the player out in public on the gallows to be shamed for his actions, there's a real problem there. I'll be interested to see how CKS handles this. Frankly, I could care less about this "infraction", but the schools have an image to uphold. How they uphold it is the problem, and it needs to be regulated conference wide or at the NCAA level. Without revealing anything that could get an individual University I know well in trouble, I have been "learned" by a wide receiver I was in classes with on how exactly the schools protect the players with the drug testing policy. Let's just say it's not "random." Urban Meyer is no stranger to these tactics, believe me.

Auburn has been paying players and their families forever.
Fulmer ratted out Alabama while Dickie and Kramer covered up a much bigger mess at Tn.
Hate both teams.

One would think that college football would see the issues with this system and take steps to immediately correct it, but you know.....

... NCAA gonna NCAA.
