Former UGA, Warner Robins star Womack dies following surgery
Jimmy Womack, the starting fullback on Georgia’s 1980 national championship team and a star player at Warner Robins, died Tuesday following complications from surgery.
Womack went in for hip surgery, and complications led to organ failure, Warner Robins football head coach Bryan Way said.
“It’s just tragic,” said Way, who was a ninth-grader when Womack was a senior at Warner Robins. “He’s one of the all-time greats. He helped put Warner Robins on the map. He was a good person and gave back to us. He was always willing to talk to the guys. Just a tragedy.”
