Leadership 2015 . . . . More Than Words, Please

Leadership “has held this team back the past couple of years”.

That quote comes from Jordan Jenkins. Thought about what Jordan had to say, came to this . . . .

Not the first time that a Senior player has said the same thing. Looking back the same has been said more than once, especially the past few years. Damien Swann said the same in the Spring of 2014.

With that being said, for those that read our board . . . . take a look back and see how many posts were made referring to “Leadership” in different threads posted here. In my opinion, Leadership starts at the top.

If Jordan is going to step up in the same manner that Jarvis Jones did, makes me a happy fan. Appears that he is taking on the role.

Bit of a sad note that we are not sure who will be the starting quarterback in the 2015 Season opener. Head coach says all four quarterbacks will get an equal amount of snaps. Something like that. Can't have four leaders at the same position, especially when our history shows that we go with one, regardless of talent.

Offensive Coordinator Schottenheimer with all of his experience coaching offensive football knows that the quarterback has to be the man. Losing “Boss” and four quarterbacks with very limited experience leaves a reason for concern. Does me.

Again, I have a very hard time understanding what our head coach is doing. Appears that Richt is going to show everyone that he is a “fair” coach when it comes to allowing everyone a reasonable shot. That has not been Mark Richts past history at the quarterback position.

Richt hired Schottenheimer to run the offense, he carries the title of “Offensive Coordinator”.

The only way that Brian Schottenheimer can be judged fairly is for Mark Richt to “stay out of the way”. Don't know about you folks, I am ready to see change. The single biggest change for me would be for Mark Richt to do what he does best, that has been discussed at length here on Dawgs.com. Let the coaches coach. If Schottenheimer is not the man for the job, one way to find out . . . . Allow him to either move forward or . . . .

Jeremy Pruitt is “leading” and think most of us can see the results of “allowing the coach to coach”.

Steve, like the new layout.

Found it interesting that CSU Head Coach Mike Bobo and Offensive Coordinator Will Friend stopped by Athens to visit with coaches and players. Like the fact that animosity is not a part of these two coaches returning to the Classic City. Don't believe that grantham would or should do same and there are others since departed that fit into that grantham mold.

Will Friend coached for Neil Callaway, ended up being a plus for UGA.

The post below goes back a few years. A bit of history.

Much thanks Buc, that was a great article. Hope it wasn't too much trouble to post it.

This just being announced, thought you guys might be interested. Go Dawgs!

UGA names Bobo offensive coordinator

Athens — Georgia assistant coach Mike Bobo has been named the team's new offensive coordinator, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said after Tuesday's practice.

Bobo takes over the title previously held by Neil Callaway, who left Monday for the UAB head coaching job.

Bobo, previously the Bulldogs' quarterbacks coach, will call plays for the second straight game against Virginia Tech.

Not a doubt in my mind that there will be some young players that don't make it to the SEC through recruiting that will make the journey to Colorado. Really opens up opportunities for many young men that want to play college football.

Believe Mike Bobo and Will Friend are going to be successful. I hope so.

Buc, I hope CSU does great this year, but not TOO great. After all, I'd hate to lose to them in a "who cares besides CSU" bowl game. It wouldn't be funny - ironic maybe, but not funny.

One thing caught my attention in that Jordan Jenkins video before your last post that really jumped out. The point JJ was making was that, since this is his senior season, he wants to make the most of every part of the experience. I understood that. However, the way it slipped out was "why take a snap off". He caught himself, but there it was on the video. "Why take a snap off" INDEED!

I know nobody can be 100% perfect on every play. The muscles just won't fire like that continually. However, instead of "taking a play off", why not just tap your helmet and run off the field?!!!! Let some other guy get a rep or two while you take a blow!!!!

The answer, of course, is "ego". Nobody wants to be thought of as "weak", and unfortunately tired = weak, at least in the minds of some. I kind of believe the difference between some teams and others is the number of guys "taking a play off". Climpsn did it against us last year more than we did it against them, and they got blown out. I think we did it all day long against Florida. And our coaches did it against the 'Cocks and the Bugs.

If we don't have a QB ready to go, with his HEAD ON this year, I will be one of the "voices of change" after this coming season. Always a Dawg, loyal to the program - not to incompetence.

Many have criticized those of us who exercise optimism this time of year, every year. I've always been amused by that criticism - what did you want? Did you want me to say how BAD I think we'll be this year? Why bother? Well don't paint me with that brush THIS year. I'm about as pessimistic as I've ever been this year. No QB going into spring, and no real OUTLOOK for a QB coming OUT of spring. That is a recipe for a 7-5 or 6-6 season. I'll go ahead and say it now, so someone can come back here in the fall and rub my nose in this post - "We WILL lose to Alabama and Auburn this year, plus one or two other games (at least) that we should have won."

Here's my only caveat - I'll take that back, IF - IF - we come out of the spring with a QB who has an arm, can use his legs (if needed) and has the good sense and the cajones to audible out of a stupid call by the coaches if need be. But we've been told that we will most likely NOT have a definitive QB going into fall camp.

Help me find some happiness. :(

thriller not only a interesting post, points well made.

Jordan Jenkins and a few others have mentioned that they are in the best shape ever. Mentioned earlier that I have heard that every year for quite some time. Tend to believe it more this season as opposed to other Springs. A serious coaching change occurred when Hocke was hired. More on that later.

Tap on the helmet. See that often in the NFL. I believe that is what Pruitt/Rocker and Company are and have been working on. Several of us on this board started talking about depth sooner than some boards that I scan often. We are closer to being a two/three deep defense at anytime in the history of Georgia football. Yep, been around for a while. This group of defensive coaches are going about the business of doing just that, building depth. This season there is not a doubt in my mind that we will see more players with game time on the defensive side than ever before.

Not a doubt in my mind that the defensive players that were on the team for the 2014 Season do not relish a ass kicking like the one they got after the JAX game. Like Pruitt and Company or not, he has changed the "mind set" in Athens. Not only the "mind set" of players, see his way of doing things reaching higher ups. I said that.

Spring football never changes, high hopes from everyone. I see a great number of incoming athletes that will be talked about, and some of that will pan out. I tend to look back at those that caused the same "Spring Fever" when they arrived in the Classic City. We again are not short of talented players. Young men have had some time on campus and have worked hard both on and off the field for the right to play between the Hedges this 2015 Season, and they will. Remembering what Toby Johnson said at the end of 2014 . . . . wish I had taken the "red shirt" and had one more year under this group of defensive coaches. Speaks volumes . . . . to me.

Pads and helmets go on, as Jordan Jenkins said, "the fun begins".

Replied by yankeedawg1 on topic Leadership 2015 . . . . More Than Words, Please
Buc. Your steadfast position on leadership has and always be true for our football program to be successful

We now have coaches on staff that can and will supply leadership. This is true for our players

I will add imho it is necessary to have a group of players who are willing to be lead... I think that is

The case with our current group of players. Leadership is successful when those being lead

Follow. Glad to see your return.... Go Dawgs

Go Dawgs!

yankeedawg1, here on the home front we have been involved in some major construction work. Pulled me away from bumping my gums.

yd1, really like hearing the leadership word coming from Jordan. Signed on here under grantham, one good thing that grantham succeeded in doing while in Athens.

You have also used the word "Leadership" in many of your posts, wherever it was necessary. Always felt that you and I shared the same thoughts with the "Leadership" word being used here. So often it is said by both coaches and players, does not always seem to end that way. Leadership and understanding the system was often used when those of us on the outside watched the arm waving a couple of years back.

Jordan Jenkins returning to campus proves to me that he is totally committed. Both to himself and the team. Along with that big smile he wears often, smile disappears when the game starts. Jordan speaking out about Lorenzo Carter and his great talent(s) shows me that there is a "Leader" who understands the different talent levels. Said something like "Carter will be the best ever in Athens". That turns out to be the case, will say I have watched some very good players in that front seven.

Young man that I have got my eyes on this year . . . . Keyon Brown. Another word that you have used often . . . . "Depth". Have never seen as much depth between the Hedges that is on board now. Actually both sides of the ball . . . . just hope that we see some "Leadership" under center. AM damn sure spoiled me.

My thoughts are Isaiah Wynn and Hunter Long will both get playing time this season. One positive, even though we don't supposedly know who our starting quarterback will be, there will be a lot of snaps for both of these players with the different quarterbacks, all four at this point. Quite frankly, more worried about the center position than the quarterback position. Boss departing will in my opinion create a larger hole than the QB position. Scratching my head a bit with the way this has come about. That by the way was not a shot at Hutson Mason. Had a great day yesterday, PRO Day in Athens. Saw Hutson do some things yesterday that I did not see during his time under center in 2015. He will get a look/see at the next level. Will bet that.

Brian Schottenheimer, you have a good hand to play.

yd1, went back and read your post prior to sending this. Pruitt will not allow anything other than all out effort. Think the message got across in 2014, if it didn't, some will find out that "practice equals play time".
