Buc,
Had intended to post something very similar to your thread earlier this week, but life/work kept getting in my way! Many, MANY clear and valid takeaways from the Ducks -v- Bucks game...The most salient and distasteful; at least for me, is to acknowledge that CUM is a damn good coach! I personally loath him for his arrogance, but denying his coaching, game planning and motivating skills no longer serves a purpose. CUM has three (3) Natty's at two (2) different institutions and conferences. CMR,................CRICKETS!!!!
I watched the game, not particularly interested in either teams victory, but found myself truly captivated by the manner in which OSU dissected and dismantled Oregon. I saw an animated, engaged HC, involved in EVERY aspect of the game. And I wondered, many times, could our team compete against either OSU or Oregon....Sadly the voice in my head was sounding a loud....
NO!
Another takeaway, and it's likely this comment will not be agreeable to some herein, but the Play-Offs were a huge success! If this years final game were decided by the BCS, we would have been watching Bama -v- Free Shoes. Moreover, the Play-Offs now provide a true vehicle for a team, like OSU, to peak late in the season and run the table. Certainly the same can and should be said of Baylor and TCU, and I hope the Play-Offs expand to eight to allow for more post season turmoil...But unlike the BCS of years past, there is absolutely NO DOUBT about who won and whether they deserved to be there!
As for the comments expressed regarding the "O" and "D" lines....there have been numerous posts dating back to CMR's earliest years expressing similar angst! It's a skill set that CMR simple DOES NOT possess, or worse, cares very little to possess! Add this to the long list alongside clock management, vanilla play calling, ambiguous special teams,......14 years have proven that CMR "chooses" to follow a different path than that of Saban, CUM, and the Hatter, and there's no sense in opening that discussion....
I'll end with this....Lots of coaching changes, but what has "really" changed? Are we likely to see a break from the "Pro-Style" offense? Will we recruit more of the "Big Uglies" for our "O" and "D" line? Will we see a resurgence in the "JYD's"? 14 years says brace yourself for more of the same....until Mahogany Row tires of modest gains!!!
