Trenton Thompson -- Real Deal

Plucked from 247.

In one of the best years for defensive tackle talent we’ve ever see, Thompson is the best of the lot. He can be a penetrating defender or a space eater and he dominated in every session of every day in San Antonio. His 101 rating puts him on par with Robert Nkemdiche (Ole Miss) and Myles Garrett (Texas A&M).

Never hurts to take another look at talent. Often do it several times on individual players.

What really gets my attention in the bold paragraph above . . . . Trenton Thompson is expected to dominate against most high school linemen he plays against on Friday nights. When he went to San Antonio and faced off with the supposed best offensive linemen in the country, probably a far cry from what he faced in Friday night football, and he dominated . . . .

Allow me this. Many times I read different sites around the internet and one thing that "bothers" me is when a poster or posters refer to someone like Trenton "plugging a hole". Maybe I carry it too far, just like to refer to his play as "gap control". Big difference.

Tracy Rocker will send this young man to the NFL. Bet that.

Jonathan Ledbetter another good get. Ledbetter along with Thompson when in a four man front, scary. Pruitt building depth. Open eyes, shut mouth McGarity. Take care of the Indoor Practice Facility, right after you take care of Bryan McClendon.

This thread started a while back. Always good to get a heads up on happenings. Plucked from the link below.

Easy to get excited about the defense. No doubt that we have a lot of folks already on campus at the defensive end and linebacker positions, more coming in this 2015 Class. Again, Roquan Smith would be a great linebacker with the group already in Athens.

Pruitt/Rocker and Company could coach this defense to new heights.

Georgia outside linebacker/defensive end early-enrollee Natrez Patrick spent the week with Thompson at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio, where Thompson got good reviews, and attended camps with him.

“Man, he’s a beast,” Patrick said, “but I knew that already. I knew the type of player he was. I knew he was a beast.”

His strength and quickness and versatility on the line already has 247Sports recruiting analyst Rusty Mansell expecting him to get double-teamed at the next level.

Edit: Liked the comments about Rocker and Thompson getting in the dirt . . . . Rocker worth his weight in "Gold" . . . . don't mention that to the Athletic Director. ;)

2015 Recruiting Section on this board has had a lot to say about Roquan Smith. The article below is a good read if you have not done so.

Takes me back to the head coaches that "really want this 4* athlete". Won't go in to the "talking heads thingy" again in this post, just know that this 4* athlete is getting attention usually reserved for those that have 5*'s by their names.

Pulled this paragraph from the article, pretty much says what needs to be said.

“I had to line the coaches up and let them go into a room,” Harold said of the recruiting process. “They’d be here, four or five at a time, waiting to speak to him. It’s been crazy. And then in the last couple of weeks, they would just come and hang out.”

Fingers crossed, no doubt that Pruitt wants Roquan big time. So do most of us. Hope Roquan Smith does not get away, know what I am referring to . . . . that "border thing."

Once upon a time Thomas Davis was recruited by Georgia, and signed his LOI. What a great man. Would love to see TD on the recruiting trail for Georgia at some point.

Men of character like Davis are, or maybe I should say, have been needed to be employed by those that have their heads up their butts.

Think TD would inspire young players to play for the State University? I think so.

Thomas Davis has never ventured too far away from the University of Georgia. Still speaks with young players about the Red and Black.

Found the star "stuff" interesting.

Check out Ohio States offensive line this yr. Five starters, two were four* stars and the other three were three*'s. Looked like they handled Oregon and Alabama pretty well. I believe it comes down to development, schemes, technique etc. The two super bowl teams today with their two deep rosters have a total of not one five* recruit out of high school. The average recruit on the offensive line combined for both teams is 2.4*'s.

When reading the "click stations that charge", ever wonder just how much they produce for the "price" that they want you and I to pay? A lot of "fluff", just send money, they know better than you and I. Ask yourself this recruiting question . . . . How many sites that charge can you go through that "were" putting the "stars" up since you began posting on this and other Georgia football sites? They come and go.

Moving on, but will return as I have before.

I really hope that Sales will continue the progress that Friend made. The same Coach Friend that had "many sites" calling for his scalp. One member that does not post here, or has not for a long period of time was on board with Coach Friend coming to Athens, AllDawgs5.

Those playing against Colorado State University will soon find out what many of the folks in Georgia did . . . . got themselves one heck of a offensive line coach, and now has the added tag of being offensive coordinator. Will definitely watch the CSU progression, believe that will be the case, progression. Have this feeling that CSU is going to look much like Georgia Southern . . . . soon. Not talking about the same offensive formation, understand it will be a pro style, but I have this feeling that there will be some differences from what we watched in Athens.
