Another Question Concerning Our Leadership . . . .

10 years 2 months ago #62723 by wlayton
I'm a tradionalist and like the pro style but always welcome positive change.

I just don't think our offense is the problem, and hopefully Pruitt/Rocker will solve THE problem.

No they are not Buc...

I don't see MR/CMB ever running any other offense other than maybe a couple of gimmick plays
here and there.

Edited to add: Like wlayton, I don't mind that all that much. I just want to make sure we always recruit players best suited for that offense, and I want solid play calling and play execution
for 60 minutes instead of 55.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Buc wrote: BullDawg2010, gained much from your post, personally. Brings me to a couple of thoughts.

Looking back, Bobo was on the sideline calling plays, there with his players. grantham rode up, right away there was a problem between the two. It appeared that way. Bobo goes topside and grantham remains on the sideline.

I am one of those that believes those in charge of the offensive and defensive side need to be on the field. Why? It is one thing to work through headphones, quite another to stand next to a player that you are and have been instructing since his arrival in Athens. Face to face in many coaching situations between coach and player tends to carry more weight.

If memory serves me, Pruitt was asked if he would be in the box . . . . short, quick answer, no. Takes me to Pruitt approaching Richt on the sideline in Saturday's game, headphones came off and there was chatter. Mentioned that earlier. I found that curious, especially at that point in the game. Headphones are needed, just not sure that they are as effective in certain situations.

Will Athens be the downfall of Pruitt/Rocker and Company? Is it possible that they will be replaced as others have been before them? As others have said on this board, let's see what happens with our defense the remainder of this season and the 2015 group makes its way to the Classic City.

Appears from the latest pressers that Richt thinks along the lines of a father and son relationship with Bobo.

One more question. While all of us want the best for these young men when they leave campus, what about those of us that think we are not using our talent properly? While many like the pro set, appears to me that we have options to at least look into other formations. Auburn did. You and I (fans) also have a right to want to win. Auburn changed their system and they won. Like I said, want the best for the young men, but we send quarterbacks on to the NFL and one of the reasons is the way our quarterbacks are prepared. My thoughts again are, good luck to the quarterbacks, but something is owed to the folks purchasing tickets and goods.

Think about this . . . . are our current group of coaches on the offensive side capable of running anything other than a pro style offense and maybe producing wins?

Buc, not sure if you read my earlier post on the matter of our O. I don't think either are willing to adjust their mindset as far as changing our O goes. The game may have passed them both up, I think we will know that answer after Gulrey leaves and we may see it this year without AM. Imagine our O this year without Gurley, scared to think about huh! Gurley is a rare breed, a game changer and a difference maker.

Like wartdawg said, "I just always want to make sure we recruit players best suited for that offense". That is very true statement! I think the Sooners have a very well balanced offense for the era that we are in right now.

I still believe we should focus on building a D that can stop the up tempo spread offense. And then work on building a hybrid offense or at the least add some spice to our pro set.

Need a dominant D.

Our offense is fine and we do have those "spices" in McK, Michel, Chubb, MM, S-W etc. They just need to be on the field more instead of locked up in the spice cabinet half the time.

sflanagan21, say this . . . . I read everything that is posted here. I particularly like the "stuff" I see coming from you. You and ogredawg butted heads soon after you came on board, but have watched that move forward. Both of you don't take too many steps back, especially when you guys believe in a certain "cause".

Will always believe that defense is a must. Have put all of my marbles in the Pruitt/Rocker and
Company bag. Around the blog-o-sphere many are up in arms about Pruitt. Really goes to show just how much they know about what is going on in Athens. Think in terms of the hamburger world it is called McDonalds, instant gratification.

You said recently that you are involved with many things outside of this board, understandable. I hope that you continue to post here, have much to offer. Remind me a great deal of someone that was here a while back, AllDawgs5. He also is a high school coach and played the game in college.

sflanagan21, stopping Auburn is going to be a tough task. While I hate to say it, Florida's defense is much better than South Carolinas. This is not going to be an easy schedule to find our way through. Pruitt knows that, and I believe you can appreciate this statement. The reason that there was such a huge gap between our linebackers and defensive backs is because the talent has not caught up to the teaching. Pruitt/Rocker and Company know that.

Spot on Buc....

Your last sentence basically is the point. Either the D secondary talent hasn't caught up with Pruitt's teachings yet OR the cupboard is really dry with secondary talent and no matter how good a D coach your are, that secondary may never quite get there.

Imo, it really hurt losing the CB and 2 safeties but we all know they needed to go. Hard to lose two 5 star safeties and a 4 (5?) star CB, especially when you only recruit so many at those positions.

Pruitt is going to have to restock the cupboard and certainly believe he will.

Those out there that are judging Pruitt's coaching capabilities right now have no clue....its like winning a Nascar race with my wife's Honda. Of the 11 D players on the field at any one time, only 7 are studs......the rest are below average. At programs like UGA etc, you just don't see a walk-on STARTING at safety day one. THAT throws up a big red flag to me and Pruitt knows it but admirably won't make excuses.

Pruitt will eventually get the D there but not so sure it will be this year, unless that front 7 can play lights out......proven they can be blocked as well. DB's need them but the front 7 need the DB's to step up for them too.

They may be trying to but I'm afraid they are just marginal D1 talent.
