One rule in the Navy was you could not graduate Boot Camp until you qualified in the pool. Say that for this reason . . . . same formula could very well be applied to young players in football training under Pruitt/Rocker and company.
Recently looking back at some of the coaching changes in college and the effects it had on some of the programs.
Tennessee went through a spell where they were coming apart at the seams, then in comes this “dude” from the West Coast to save the day. Fans loved the new hire, no ceiling for Tennessee under Lane Kiffen. Oh well.
Auburn had some problems, in comes Chizk, somehow wins a National Championship, soon thereafter got the pink slip. Up rides Gus Malzahn, instant success, made it to the National Championship Game with many of the same players.
Same can be said for Alabama at an earlier date. Hired Nick Saban and history under his leadership proves out quickly. Now being compared to the "Bear".
Hurts me to say this . . . . urban meyer lands in Gainesville, success right away. Then the team starts to slip and urban was too sick to remain in Gainesville. In comes a former football player at UGA, Muschamp, and the results speak for themselves.
All of that takes me to this . . . .
Georgia has Mark Richt since 2001. Appears to me that Richt has had the same problems that Muschamp has had thus far at Florida. Can never seem to put the right coaches on both sides of the ball at the same time. That is not being ugly, it is simply saying that looking back over the years, leadership on ALL FRONTS has been missing in Athens. It has been said on this board that Mark Richt has spent much of his time chasing his tail. Show time is here and now in 2014.
Said in another thread this past week that the latest hires in Athens begin to look like either a beginning of something good, or decisions will have to be made about who leads the Bulldogs in the near future.
Much of what I read, and that is a lot, seems to have most of the supporters on board with Pruitt/Rocker and company. Again, not to be ugly, but it is that time of the year when those that were disgruntled in 2013’s end results begin to “mellow” a bit and of course, hope springs eternal for 2014.
For the past four or so years Pruitt has been aligned with National Championship teams. How far that will play out in Athens, won’t take long to find out. Anyone that thinks Clemson is coming to Athens to hide, don’t be fooled.
One thing that makes me feel a bit of optimism is the fact that Pruitt/Rocker and company understand “how” to get a team prepared to play. Again, not being ugly, I think that has been a serious flaw for many years in Athens, referred to as the missing ingredient(s) in any recipe to make the dish all it can be.
Here is hoping that we got it right this time around. If not, the noise will be deafening for a period of time and then we will repeat the same cycle again. Ticked off for a while, then back to all is well.
Incredible amount of talent in Athens, me thinks coaching has been the missing link.
Go Dawgs, Coach’em Up.
