~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lifted this Poll from SBNation.
First thought that came to my mind after looking at the poll . . . . shows again the excitement of the folks that look basically at areas other than the one area we need the most help. Offensive line.
I Understand the poll is which player excites you the most.
Folks time for many UGA fans to start wishing for offensive linemen. Have seen more said about the offensive line this year than past years.
Sorry, not going to a Final Four or final anything without a "deep offensive line".
Buc votes for Dyshon Sims. Many will know his name after he departs the Athens Campus.
Really like the 2014 Class, not throwing rocks, just trying to understand what others think.
Dyshon has played against some very good high school football players. Many he has faced are either playing college football now, or will be entering this season. Many are either in or going to play D1 at some serious football universities.
From what I gather, he will play Left Tackle. Dyshon has the frame to put on a lot of weight, but don't believe that to be the plan. He will probably play at 290/300. Young man I am told is incredibly strong, likes to "mix" or maybe I should say "engage".
Will Friend has a winner in Dyshon Sims, both physically and academically. Coming to Athens from Lowndes excites me. One that FSU did not get.
This young offensive lineman is not mentioned in the poll. Isaiah Wynn.
Another really, really good offensive lineman. Coming from down my way, maybe some are not as aware of Isaiah Wynn as I am. He caused a lot of problems from many players he faced while in high school. Isaiah also strapped it on against many that will and do play D1 football. When the word "nasty" is used, fits Isaiah perfectly. Also, with that nastiness comes great skills. Still believe at some point Isaiah will play the center position. He would do well.
While it is exciting to get Michel and Chubb, what does it matter if you don't have a good and deep OL?
Buc, you know I stand in the OL camp just like yourself. Imo, both sides of the ball start with the guys up front......especially in the SEC.
wlayton, I do know where you stand on the offensive line, goes back years.
When I mention "depth" the first thing that comes to my mind is . . . . having players that can step in for whatever reason and get in the flow.
Young stud offensive linemen today are a priority for the NFL, and that leads to moving on to the NFL with time remaining that could be played in college. I don't fault that, it is the sign of the times. Who am I or anyone else to say to these young men, stay home?
This is a time in their lives to make a large sum of money. Sadly many of the players don't have the background or proper counseling to protect them after a short career in the NFL. We are talking about 23/24 year old young men that don't have a guaranteed 10 or 15 years left in their money making cycle. Old folks like myself understand that 30/35 is a very young age. Sorry, wandered again . . . . :blush:
I look at the college teams that rank highly year after year, one thing can usually be pointed to and that is offensive line depth. Auburn is on that path as I type this post. Will pay dividends in the near future.
Have also said this before . . . . Have watched and read about our head coach and his involvement in recruiting. Just my opinion, he has not seen the forest for the trees. As you say above wlayton, who among us is not excited about Nick, Sony and others coming to the Classic City.
Said in a post some months back . . . . can we imagine Turley and Marshall running behind a line like Auburn had in the 2013 Season? What about running behind Alabama's offensive line, year after year. That is the "master plan" I believe in Saban and other coaches way of thinking their way to the top.
Someone, maybe many of our coaches need to dig their heels in and maybe turn this offensive line recruiting around. I cringe everytime I see a "top tier offensive lineman" sign elsewhere in the SEC, especially young players from Georgia.
Has been said that this 2015 Class is heavily loaded on the defensive side of the ball. Looking at the commits thus far, agree. Really want to see some of those open slots filled with offensive linemen of the future, those that will step in when those in front of them move on to the NFL.
Buc that poll reminds me of the fans baseball picks for the all star game
Both don't make sense Just throwing darts to make selection
Truly think our OL will surprise us favorably. Said yesterday felt as a class this incoming
group Comes with a collective attitude that they want to make a difference and move the
Program forward. A very good thing.
Go Dawgs!
