wlayton, I do know where you stand on the offensive line, goes back years.
When I mention "depth" the first thing that comes to my mind is . . . . having players that can step in for whatever reason and get in the flow.
Young stud offensive linemen today are a priority for the NFL, and that leads to moving on to the NFL with time remaining that could be played in college. I don't fault that, it is the sign of the times. Who am I or anyone else to say to these young men, stay home?
This is a time in their lives to make a large sum of money. Sadly many of the players don't have the background or proper counseling to protect them after a short career in the NFL. We are talking about 23/24 year old young men that don't have a guaranteed 10 or 15 years left in their money making cycle. Old folks like myself understand that 30/35 is a very young age. Sorry, wandered again . . . .
I look at the college teams that rank highly year after year, one thing can usually be pointed to and that is offensive line depth. Auburn is on that path as I type this post. Will pay dividends in the near future.
Have also said this before . . . . Have watched and read about our head coach and his involvement in recruiting. Just my opinion, he has not seen the forest for the trees. As you say above wlayton, who among us is not excited about Nick, Sony and others coming to the Classic City.
Said in a post some months back . . . . can we imagine Turley and Marshall running behind a line like Auburn had in the 2013 Season? What about running behind Alabama's offensive line, year after year. That is the "master plan" I believe in Saban and other coaches way of thinking their way to the top.
Someone, maybe many of our coaches need to dig their heels in and maybe turn this offensive line recruiting around. I cringe everytime I see a "top tier offensive lineman" sign elsewhere in the SEC, especially young players from Georgia.
Has been said that this 2015 Class is heavily loaded on the defensive side of the ball. Looking at the commits thus far, agree. Really want to see some of those open slots filled with offensive linemen of the future, those that will step in when those in front of them move on to the NFL.
