The culture of basketball in Georgia is not at the level of football.
As a kid, basketball was simply a fill in winter sport.
Drafty old gyms, a few fans, etc.
And although it's gotten better, fact is, the best high school players in state usually go play outside of Georgia.
Tobacco Road we're not.
It's a shame because we could conceivably be very good.

That's my point average.....if we had a dynamic coach and an AD who demanded excellence in facilities and coaches, we could at least be like Mizzou or Florida or UCONN (heck, those last 2 schools I mentioned don't have a long glorious history---someone built that in the past 20 years).

Look at the top 10 players in the state this year--not one of them will be coming to UGA. Just get 2 of them each year and we are top 15-20.

Why is our swim team great??? A coach MADE the program. Why is our girl's softball team great? A coach made the program. (BTW, that softball team had the #1 ranked class in the nation last year and about 5 of those freshmen started; they will be sophomores this year. A top 4 team and a good chance to win it all.)

So true.....funny, with the exception of being a good recruiter, most golf coaches are more of a chaperone than a coach.....but UGA has won many titles......2 NC's and 26 SEC titles along with many individual titles. Plus many on the PGA tour etc.

Very successful program.....my brother played on a couple of the SEC Championship teams in the early '60's.
