Days long gone, Buc. We'll never have a coordinator like Erk, of course, because there will never be another like him...but as long as richt is coach, we'll never have a "real" coordinator again either.

Spot on sadlerdawg.

Same could be said for VD. There was no reason for Erk to leave Athens, did not want to. Lots of stories out there about the two.

Remembering the sidelines back in the day . . . . during the game you would see the players staying as close to Erk as they could. Can't say the same for the other coach. Said it more than one time, Erk should have been the head coach to relieve VD. VD made damn sure that did not happen, soon after Erk left, VD put his chosen ones in place.

Seems these head coaches get full of themselves. While they might have a different approach, it comes down to one thing, being careful not have their egos bruised.

Folks in Statesboro will get in the dirt with anyone that has a bad thing to say about Erk. Sometimes "history" is not appreciated. Erk will always be a part of Georgia history to me, and many that got to know him.

Those attending the game in JAX might understand more about Erk and what he accomplished during his stay in Athens in the link below. It is University of Georgia Football History. One of his accomplishments in bold below.

The Godfather of Soul, James Brown, even recorded "Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs", and belted out the tune during the half time of the Georgia Florida game in the Gator Bowl stadium.

Truth be told, they were not "Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs". Dooley knew it and hated it.

If you have not read the link below, encourage you to do so. One of the reasons this old fart has Erk as his avatar. Many now use the term "Junkyard Dawg", Erk is responsible. Just a thought.

From your article, Buc.....something richt will NEVER comprehend.

, "By our own definition, a Junkyard Dog is a dog completely dedicated to his task, that of defending his goal line. Further, he is very often a reject (from the offense) or the runt of the litter. Nobody wants him, and he is hungry. We had three walk-ons, four QBs, and three running backs in our original Junkyard Dog starting cast, which averaged 208 pounds across the front. In short, a Junkyard Dog is one who must stretch and strain all of his potential just to survive. Then he can think about being good."

sadlerdawg, Wartdawg made a statement (post) about the game being played in JAX that caught my eye. In the post he mentioned watching the "History Channel", not being excited about the Georgia/Nebraska game. Kind of tossing words around is the way I took it.

There is so much carry over from Erk that is not either known or understood by many that now align with our football team.

Great selection from you in Post #4.

A lot can be learned from "looking back" and comparing to the present. Erk did not like folks crossing the UGA goal line. Watching the young pups that played for him, don't believe we will ever see that kind of "oneness" under richt/grantham. Erk was about team, VD/richt/grantham, on a different page, from where I sit.

Thanks for responding to this thread sadlerdawg, means a lot to me. I have tried to be "one of the guys" that wanted to see positive change, have not crossed that trail as yet. Still think that this board is divided, as most are. Could very well be that I am too involved with "history". Have not seen a lot of history made under the current forces, have seen a lot of all about "next year" for far too many years. Already reading in many places where 2014 is going to be "the year". Could be if there were some coaching changes in Athens, along with some sitting in higher places.

"Dooley's Junkyard Dawgs" my a$$.

Yeah Buc, on the "all about next year" thing, a good portion of our fan base is the punch line of the running joke year after year that goes something along the lines of, if the national championship was awarded in August, UGA would win every year. Somehow a huge percentage of our fan base is delusional, and buys into this crap that somehow this will be the year, every year. Then when it falls apart, the excuses start rolling in. Then by the end of the year, the conversation turns (again) to how all the pieces are in place for our championship run next year (again). It's a sad and pathetic joke, but it must be a good one because people keep telling it year after year.
I'll be working Wednesday, and while I can usually find a TV to check in on UGA games during work, I don't think I'll put any effort into finding one this time. Haven't any other time this year, why start now?
