From the Savannah News:
QB Murray earns academic honor
Aaron Murray’s chances of being invited to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist may have dipped in recent weeks, but the Georgia senior quarterback will be heading there in December for another honor.
Murray is among 16 recipients of the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Awards, according to an announcement Thursday. Each player will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. They are also the finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy for the nation’s top scholar-athlete. That award will be announced at the NFF awards dinner on Dec. 10 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.
Murray, the only SEC representative on the list this year, becomes the 13th Georgia player in program history to receive the honor.
Murray earned his undergraduate degree in psychology in 2011 with a 3.3 GPA and had a 4.0 in his first semester in a psychology doctorate program. He’s now taking undergraduate classes toward another degree.
Murray, the SEC’s all-time leading passer, was named a semifinalist earlier this week for the Maxwell Award for nation’s top player.
