Kirby Smart's Time

Mack Brown seems to have serious problems at Texas. Quick fire of Diaz as defensive coordinator, Brown has to have his back to the wall.

Reason I bring this up . . . . my bet is that a former Georgia Bulldog will be the next head coach in Austin . . . . Kirby Smart. I said that.

Nick Saban advised Kirby Smart not to make a lateral move, which I think was a sound piece of advice. Saban will not get in Smart's way if he chooses to become the head coach at Texas. Saban would much rather see Smart in Austin than Athens.

Matter of fact, if Texas comes calling, Saban will encourage them to hire Smart. Said that also.

Saban is well situated in Tuscaloosa, Smart is ready and will not play #2 any longer. Texas calls, Kirby goes.

Just a thought, believe this will happen.

If KS is going to become an HC anywhere else but UGA would prefer it be outside the SEC thats for sure. I don't think he'd be coming here anyway so please take the job at Texas and Good Luck to you.....

growl, does my heart good to see folks that spent their college days in Athens doing great things outside of Athens.

Throw this little remark in here. Some will like the move others will not. Strong chance that Mike Bobo will be hired as offensive coordinator under Smart. Both are very good friends, both are aware of each others talents.

Both are very effective recruiters, especially in Georgia. If this coaching change was to happen, these two would have Texas also to add to their list of gathering football players. Makes sense to me.

Texas A&M joining the SEC, causing Texas and others problems. What better way to change the philosophy of coaching in Texas than to bring in two SEC coaches? Thinking out loud.

I agree with you Buc, wherever KS goes MB is going to follow and we will find out for sure about CMBs playcalling ability. I expect that in the near future CMB will be making an other than lateral move if KS does'nt come calling. GO DAWGS!! GATA

I see Texas as one of the programs that will open up the checkbook for the right coach. When that happens, the possibilities are endless and the dominos start to fall. Will bring many into play. Because you know they want to get back to being a contender.

Kiffin may be in trouble at USC. Muschamp could jump. Smart is obvious contender. Would Saban go to rebuild a program (much like Spurrier)? Then there are the three P's ... Peterson, Patterson, Patrino. Sweeney?

And then there's this: bleacherreport.com/articles/1509556-coll...20-assistant-coaches

TN Dawg, your opening statement about money in Austin . . . . lots and lots. Spot on statement.

Don't remember looking at the particular piece you posted coming from Bleacherreport. Probably did, just don't recall. Lots of talent within that list, many or most could step up.

Do know when Nick Saban speaks, most stop and listen. He is one of those that folks pay attention to, especially on the college level. Saban wanted Smart to stay with him for many reasons. Do not believe that holding him back from a head coaching job is one of them.

Texas football is no different than many colleges, politics play a huge role in many of the decisions made in Austin. Mack Brown has been responsible for a lot of the money that Texas has. Brown, if using his head will step down, Lone Star State will take good care of him, as if needed. Has been time for Brown to leave much earlier than now.

Could be that Muschamp left too soon, however if he had stayed, don't believe that BYU and others would be putting all of those points on the board. Would have been a little easier on Brown if Muschamp had stayed. Muschamp has a very good defense that we will see in JAX.

I am one that believes in what the SEC has done for many years, now colleges all over the country are awake to our way of playing football. Defense wins football games. Ask Notre Dame, ballyhooed all season, finally faced a football team that had answers.

If Kirby is not selected, there will be another college that will jump all over Saban's assistant. Some university is going to make Kirby Smart a very rich man . . . . that was part of Nick Saban's plan for Kirby.
