My football experience and knowledge is so close to zero, I could starve on the difference. There isn't a great deal I know, and most of my time at Georgia was spent drunk in the student section as I suffered through four years of the post-Dooley/pre-Richt era historians will likely refer to as "The Second Dark Age of Mankind."
Still, you can learn a great deal from section 110, unburdened as most are with an intimate knowledge of the Xs and Os, of the intricate differences between a 3-4 and 4-3 defense. Everything...everything I know about football is based on biased observation, blind devotion and localized xenophobia that raises its head like a bad rash during the fall and early winter months.
So, my unqualified opinion is as follows:
Mark Richt is a good coach, great, great recruiter. I'm on the fence. There's value in a tenured HC. On the basis of record alone, he's the best we've had. Some would crucify him for failure to deliver a national championship. I'm not sure I'm in that camp, but being a manager of 110 employees, I know where the fault falls when the fan gets muddy. Replacing him would be more problematic than allowing him to stay. What I will say is that no man is better than his team, and all great men surround themselves with great men. To that end, my personal opinion here can be summed up in one word: Bobo. I can't believe that CMB is the best OC Georgia money can buy. Are you listening to me, boosters?
Our O-line has more holes than the Swiss cheese they serve at the Vatican...I said THE SWISS CHEESE THEY SERVE AT THE VATICAN!!?? Holy Swiss?...geez...tough audience. I swear, I replayed the game in slooooow motion and saw an old Buick full of lost snowbirds weaving their way through our o-line on their way to Florida. Word from the stat crew is that Theus got run over more times than a possum on 316. Still, the GREAT news here is that this team HAS to improve simply because there is no metric for a worse performance. With O linemen, big is good. We have plenty of big. Problem is, OUR big seems to come with slow and befuddled.
Todd Gurley, Quayvon Hicks. Studs. Malcolm Mitchell...official team numbnuts. Receivers and TEs...studs. QB...wawawawawaaaaaa. I don't get AM. It's like having a Lamborghini in the garage but no keys. Sure looks good on paper. Sure has all the tools, but let the rubber hit the road? I can't put the game on his shoulders since somebody on the Oline was trying to get him killed. I'm guessing AM was caught kissing John Theus's girlfriend, or perhaps he stole John's TANSTAAFL coupons...dunno. Stand between a big man and his girl, or a big man and a buffet and there's gonna be trouble. Pretty sure I could have ran through our O line this weekend. For a moment, I thought Willie Martinez was coaching our O line. Bend, don't break is not a good strategy for offensive lines. Even the kids in Section 110 know this.
Gotta give props to the kids on D. 6 Freshmen and they did fairly well considering the competition. They've got to wrap up those tackles. If they need to see how its done, watch John Theus tackle the Dominoes delivery guy. That's how it's done, kids.
Anyhoo...this one is in the bag. Scar and the OBC are next up. Right now, I say we lose this one too, for the simple reason that at the end of the game, AM will have a bruise eerily similar to an outline of Jadaveon Clowney tattooed across his back.
