growl, believe that the best thing this team has going for it is unity. As you say, and say correctly, if we go by rating systems and what information we can gather, appears that Georgia is higher on the scale than Clemson.
That is where in my opinion the rubber has to meet the road. Have we as football players moved away from being "BMOC".
Team players usually find out quickly that this is not high school football. That young man standing next to you and wearing the same color jersey is pretty damn good, maybe a touch better in some areas.
We have several players, freshmen and others that could play right out of high school at another university. Not that long ago, if a player was rated highly, he could do the same at Georgia. That has changed a lot, even though we will see several freshmen starting for us against Clemson. Our program has changed from trying to get there, to getting close to being there.
Allow me to move to this . . . . remember a few short years back when something went wrong for example, in the defensive backfield. Remember the finger pointing that went on. Not that long ago. I would be shocked if we see anything close to that this season. That is something that is taken to the sideline and discussed, not pointing out a mistake made for many thousands to see in the stands, but this day and time, across the nation.
One problem that I had with Todd Grantham on arrival was his temperment when a young pup came off of the field and he was in their face. Sometimes, I guess it can and does happen, not sure that is the right way. These young players today are not quick to accept a finger in their face. Back in the day, Woody Hayes and many more did it almost every quarter they coached.
College football has changed, what was allowed in the 50's through the early 90's and a tad further on the time scale, not the same. Part of this I am drawing from AD5, he said virtually the same thing a while back, and he was right, a lot of agreement from me.
Moving a little further. I have made it well know my feelings for Will Friend. He said quickly after coming on board, best man plays. Look at our starting lineup, Will Friend was not blowing smoke. That is exactly the kind of coaching that will move our program leaps and bounds from where it was.
What is the outcome to some of this? Well when we look at the program overall, look at some of the talent that is beginning to take a closer look at Athens, someone or something is happening that makes folks like me happy.
DawgDoc said in a post yesterday or the day before that he could pick up on me having some concerns about Clemson. Doctor was right. Not thinking loss, thinking about the "maybes". DawgDoc has been on this board I think from the get go. While he does not post a lot, what he does post has meaning. I salute you sir.
One last thingy (as usual). Duck or duck, you come across my mind most everyday. After Saturday night, it will be everyday until we finish the job that has gone far too long unfinished. Saw enough last night to know that they are not a superior football team, when being compared to the Red and Black. They have some tough guys, but who doesn't?
Folks there are butterflys everywhere in my home, maybe Saturday night I can get rid of this particular batch and then let the new ones in. Football is back.
Go Dawgs, make yourselves proud. If you do that, there will be
faces everywhere in the Dawg Nation.
