Getting closer to football season, after this weekend with the “prospects” on campus, then leaving to check other universities out, we get down to the business of Georgia Football.
If all of our “commits” stay with us, appears to me that we have climbed another step up the ladder, moving toward the top.
It is exciting having players like Nick Chubb and Sony Michel reporting for duty. Don’t mean anything by this, but Dalvin Cook is coming this weekend, friend of Sony Michel’s. Both of these young players have everyone in South Florida wanting them . . . . “badly”. Sure would love to have Dalvin throw the gaytors to the curb and come on board. Yes, I know we have backs, but not all backs are the same. Can never accept the gaytors having “players” that fit in with UGA style of football, especially when they are in Mark Richt's area as a younger man.
Back to the opening of this thread. Cannot remember when I was more excited about watching our offense on the field. While it is a good thing to keep the hoppers full . . . . I want to enjoy watching Gurley and Marshall kicking butt. Do not believe there has “ever” been a better combination of running backs in Georgia’s history. Agree with thriller, Marshall is going to be "all that" this season. Here is hoping that Mike Bobo has plans that all of his "offensive" weapons are on board and happy with. Not questioning Bobo anymore, watched him in Orlando and a couple of other "situations", Mike Bobo has served his time and now gets a "high five" from me.
Say it again, as some on this board have said . . . . Hoping that we can get the offensive linemen that come in and look around, to start a movement on the “front” like the running backs seem to be doing as we speak. UGA is real close to accomplishing the same things that are currently going on in Tuscaloosa. They are probably 3 or 4 years ahead of us when we look at recruiting players that everyone wants. Comes from the Crystal. That is not a reason to give up, it is a reason to keep moving forward. Nick Saban and Kirby Smart have earned everything that they have worked for.
Some won’t like this, but I say, so what.
If the young men playing football in the State of Georgia don’t choose to play for the “State School” . . . . Nothing can be done about that. The State of Florida has an incredible amount of athletes that are willing to go elsewhere. Personally, don’t give a damn if the player is from Japan, if he chooses the Dawgs . . . . He is a Dawg.
Mark Richt and a couple of his coaches have made a serious difference in the way some of the South Florida players feel toward Georgia football. Believe me when I say this . . . . "there will be more".
Said in another thread, would anyone on this board or some of the other “supposed” Georgia boards want to give up Gurley and Marshall? North Carolina men with strong backgrounds. The two of them could have played for any university in the country. Says something about the coaching staff that is in Athens . . . . my opinion.
Our board will light up once folks read everything that the media has to say . . . . How else would any of us know . . . . We don’t have passes like the AJC and others. Most want to talk about football after it has been played on Saturday afternoons. Opinions are expressed by the handfuls.
I believe that we (all of us) have a “right” to think that we are a very good football team. It will be interesting to read all of the comments after the Clemson and South Carolina fooball games. There will be many with opinions, one way or another. I fit into that shoe.
One last shot . . . . The Defense is going to go through the “mill” prior to the first game. Ask yourself this question . . . . Is Clemson with their “hotshot” quarterback that good? Is our young defense that bad? They have a great receiver . . . . is he as good as #8 that played for UGA? Is he better than Malcolm Mitchell? Do they have tight ends that stack up with us? Is their defense any better than ours?
If I am a coach at the University of Georgia . . . . I want to play this game on their field. Rock or not. Clemson with its crowd noise will not stop AM, his offensive line, tightends, running backs and fullbacks (we will see fullbacks in this game). UGA by 14 or so if the game is called fairly.
I like this football team, and they have not played one (1) down together at this point.
Sometimes we get a "feel" for certain things. There is a lot of reasonsing behind my thoughts. Mark Richt became a Head Football Coach. Mike Bobo became an Offensive Coordinator. Todd Grantham remained at Georgia and he is a solid Defensive Coordinator, and really like the coaches he hand picked to come on board.
We have incredible athletes, being led by a staff of coaches that love the game of football. Time for Georgia and Clemson to lock up and get it on.
Edit: What JTII and his group have so much going on, and it has changed UGA Football. AllDawgs5 knows, it is what you don't see that makes a team better.
I have posted this before, but I sincerely hope that we keep Sherman Armstrong for a long, long time. Conversations in South Florida, Sherman's name pops up. He is a respected "leader". JTII did the right thing when he made room for Sherman. Sherman carries a lot of weight also in the Tampa area. Just saying. Keep this group together Richt.
