SEC Left Tackles Hard To Come By

11 years 5 months ago - 11 years 5 months ago #52676 by Buc
This might not be in agreement with many or some on the board. One of the folks that I respect most, in disagreement with. He told me several months back that Theus would start at Left Tackle.

I do not believe that Theus is a true Left Tackle, not in the SEC or the NFL. I do believe that he can play any other position on the offensive line, excluding center. I think he is the perfect Right Tackle or Guard. Believe he will be a Right Tackle in the NFL, if he buckles down and plays SEC Football. Think that Theus understands now that this is not Friday night high school football. Not beating him up guys, just putting out what I think I see.

Understand that coming out of high school, Theus needed some time to prepare for the SEC, most high schoolers do.

Theus can play Left Tackle if we run the ball over 70% of the time, but folks, sorry, go back and check his skill level as a . . . . yep, Freshman. He did have some injury problems, hope he is past that at this point. Might not like this but . . . . he was not in SEC Football Shape.

Nothing wrong with playing another position along the O-line, every position counts and a let down anywhere along the O-line and there are some very good defensive coordinators that eat that up in the film room.

Theus might start the season at Left Tackle, but I would be surprised at that lineup. "I will eat crow" if that becomes the case, and will also say this . . . . Above all else, hope that I am wrong, eat feathers and all.

I do believe that this offensive line will come to play this fall. Defense stacks up, could be fun.

If it sounds like sour grapes . . . . that ain't so . . . . just looking around. :)

Respect your opinion Buc. I still lean to Theus as the left tackle now and into the future. You make some interesting points and be sure to "cook" the crow as it is not very good raw (I should know).........

Greetings ogredawg . . . . Hate the feathers, damn things tickle my throat. Also prefer chicken wings. Went back and reviewed a couple of conversations, hoping you are right and Theus comes full blast this year and next.

Think that this might be an appropriate place to insert this link. There has been some conversation here and other boards about needing offensive linemen. Seems the rich get richer. Read where Saban has said that all teams find a time at some point when they slip a bit. Does not seem to be that way in the near future for Tuscaloosa.

Believe that we are going to get a young man from your stomping grounds soon. Crossed fingers for sure. Will talk again with Greg on Friday. :)

Word of caution, there is "language" in the video. Be careful.

Edit: Second thought, going to delete the link, want to see young man in action go to the al.com.

When I hear the word "nasty" used when describing the big'uns, watch the video on this guy, "nasty".

This particular paragraph stood out to me. SEC riding high, and that number one position in college football has been earned, not given.

“The SEC iswhere you want to play D-1 ball," Jackson told BamaOnline. "If you can compete there, you can play at the next level for sure. It’s where everyone wants to be. They’ve been the national champions for two consecutive years and they have Coach Nick Saban."

Players name is Dominick Jackson if interested.

You know Buc, your comments (and Dominick Jackson's) about how good the SEC is made me want to look at a team outside our conference that always gets a lot of love from the national media. the Ohio State Buckeyes. Let's take a look at their schedule for this fall:

1. Buffalo - sure, we "struggled" to beat them . . . sorta. But I don't really think they represent a serious threat to the won/loss column.
2. San Diego State - well, they DID play in a bowl game . . . lost . . . to BYU.
3. at California - 3-9 last year . . . nuff said.
4. Florida A&M - obviously a revenue builder for A&M.
5. Wisconsin - Played in a BCS bowl game . . . and finished 8-6. Let's call this a legit opponent though, five games into the season.
6. at Northwestern - well they DID beat Mississippi State in their bowl game. <ahem>
7. Iowa - finished 4-8.
8. Penn State - 8-4, including a 9 point loss to the Cornhuskers.
9. at Purdue - went 6-7 last year, with a bowl loss to Oklahoma State - why were they in this game?!
10. at Illinois - 2-10 last year.
11. Indiana - 4-8 last year.
12. at Michigan - 8-5 last year and a bowl loss to the 'Cocks.

Maybe I'm wrong, but something tells me OSU is going to be playing for the National Championship.

Buc, again I agree with you about Theus....have said all along that he isn't a LT, in this league particularly, IMHO.

That said, if he does start at LT, I certainly hope ogredawg is right. I would have no problem admitting I was wrong if Theus can do the job.

We both saw JJ eat his lunch in that drill while visiting one of UGA's camps. It really scares me to think what Clowney will do to him....AND AM...could get Murray killed.

Unless he improves dramatically, he's a RT in my book....and feel he actually needs to improve there as well.....mainly in pass blocking.

Love the kid and hope I'm wrong.

thriller, I am convinced that the new "selection committee" will make sure that Ohio State gets into the final four. Amazes me that football fans cannot see through this smoke screen that Urban Meyer hides behind.

I do understand that the OSU fans think that they are all that, to be expected. Curious thing happened on the way to making the "future schedules". Amazing how lowly University of Georgia was dropped from OSU's foes in the future.

One thing is for sure, Urban Meyer ran out of gas in the SEC, and he knows that playing against the schedule that SEC teams do every year, (each other) he would get that funny medical feeling that suddenly appeared when he realized that he no longer could strut around like he did in his early years in our conference.

Most of us know that UM had secured the Ohio home property prior to getting ill. Mentioned it on this board.

My understanding is that Jeremy Foley had enough of UM and did not want him back. Foley was aware of what was going on in the football area under Meyer, as did McGarity and many people associated with gator football at that time.

Here is where the power of the media comes in. Urban Meyer goes to ESPN (Mickey and Minnie) and begins "recruiting indirectly" for Ohio State. Needed a sit down job, health reasons.

Folks, don't ever forget that Mickey and Minnie will want Urban Meyer in the final four, Urban "Liar" Meyer is a part of the "Mouseketeers", some call it a "Brotherhood".

Keep your eyes on the television and it will unfold for all of us to see . . . . soon. Slive had better crossed the T's and dotted the I's. Guarantee is that Mickey and Minnie did.

wlayton you make a good point about the video matchup between JJ and Theus.

I am hoping that JJ is on his game this year and gives Spurrier and his troops something to think about.

Do know that Grantham put all of his marbles in JJ's sack when he recruited this young man. Must say this, will not surprise me to see Lorenzo Carter sign on with UGA because of the coaching staff. Most think Alabama, I think Red and Black. Carter could be the final piece that we need to get over the "hump" and stand with the best.

Really feel good about Bryan McClendon recruiting Lorenzo Carter. Carter will get the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth from McClendon. McClendon is doing a masterful job, both on the field and off. Said it a couple of times, like this group of coaches. :)
