Found it interesting that Mark Richt had a small comeback concerning a statement or statements that Steve Spurrier made in the past.
Don’t get me wrong, as has been mentioned before, glad to see some changes in Richt’s coaching style. Once upon a time a comment like the one Richt made would be like pulling teeth. All of us know that Richt came down hard on the goofy talk show dude last season, all but came over the podium and brought the “hard” facts to him.
Richt commenting on Spurrier digs goes to show that even the “mildest” coaches have long memories. Also shows that Spurrier understands how to get his digs in and get into opposing coaches heads. Lots of “talk” goes on during a football game on the field between players, nothing new. Recalling a Florida player a few years back talking about the UGA football players being spent in JAX during the game.
There is not a doubt in my mind that Todd Grantham has this thing about jumping all over Steve Spurrier, trying to make him eat some of his past words. Think most of us know that Grantham has a much shorter “fuse” than Richt. The game in Athens against Steve Spurrier and the Gamecocks not only is high on Duck’s list of want to wins, it is also extremely high on Grantham’s. No way has Grantham gotten over the smack down that happened in Columbia last season. Maybe we will see improvement on the defensive side now that Garner moved his cot to Auburn. Yes, I believe Garner went to sleep at the wheel. Also believe that the gap widened between Grantham and Garner after the game in Columbia. For damn sure something had to change. We find out soon enough. One change was made.
Clemson, South Carolina back to back. Anyone think that there will be smack talk coming from Spurrier? Personally hoping that he does repeat his past, never hurts to have bulletin board material.
Good on you Mark Richt, might even take a shot at SS, change how “head” games are played. That would be a change.
Grantham, know that you would die a thousand deaths if Spurrier hangs points on your defense, especially between the Hedges.
Going to be fun folks . . . .
