Boyd, Franklin, Quarterback Talk

A lot has been said about facing off with Tajh Boyd in our opening game. Brings back memories of last years game against Missouri and James Franklin.

Many writers were telling us that James Franklin was a triple threat. Not knocking Franklin and his abilities, but I seem to remember him looking lost in several situations when faced with pressure. I would venture to say that Franklin had never played against the talent that Georgia showed up with that night.

Guessing that Boyd will face some of the same pressures that Franklin did last season. Don’t doubt for a minute that Tajh Boyd is a tremendous athlete, also has himself surrounded with some players that could play for just about any SEC team.

Grantham and the defensive coaches will do everything in their power to confuse and “hurry” Boyd . . . . That is the way the game is played. I am not sure that Boyd has faced a team with as many above average defensive players as UGA has since arriving on the Clemson campus. If this group in Athens comes close to meeting expectations, we are in for one heck of a game.

Do I think that Georgia is above Clemson on the offensive side. Yep. If something should happen to AM, I don’t have a problem with HM making his way to the huddle. Reason that I mention the possibility of AM getting bruised, really think he will run twice as much as any previous season.

Really don’t see Clemson being able to stop Marshall and Gurley, and maybe Hicks. Just mentioning Quayvon because I do think he will get carries this season. Also think that we are going to see a different side of Marshall. I think he is a committed young man. He has goals set, and I know that they are lofty. Marshall had a heck of a freshman year, as a sophomore, he is now armed with the knowledge on how SEC football is played. No substitute for experience.

Tightends and receivers, appears to me that we are loaded. Not only with sticky hands, blazing speed also.

Takes me to the offensive line, and my bet is what we saw last season will be topped this season. Just a gut feeling.

Would love to see us put points on the board first, could change the entire makeup of the game. My opinion. Might force Boyd and company to do some things that were not contemplated.

Would love to be a fly on the wall and watch some of the practices in the Fall. Both sides of the ball will be playing against serious competition in practice. Probably tougher than some of the competition that we will face in 2013.

Last but not least . . . . Kicking game has to be top flight with this schedule of 2013. Must have an SEC quality kicking game.

Just thinking to myself.

I have been thinking about the combo of Marshall and Gurley a lot lately and feel that if Marshall puts it together like I think he can UGA is going to be incredible on offense. I know I've heard it said by others here, and I feel it to be true, that UGA should have these two in the backfield together more often. That could be a real unpleasant happening for most of the defenses UGA will face, especially south cackalacky.

Buc, was thinking about your post on Boyd etc. For me, the closest team to UGA that Clemson played last year, especially on defense, was FSU. Their D was VERY good imo.....fast, physical and could get after the QB....great D.

FSU beat Clemson 49-37 at home.

Boyd was 20-36-1 for 260 yards and 3 TD passes (4 total TD passes but from someone else). He rushed for 57 yards (with minus 13 I assume on the 2 sacks). Those aren't bad numbers against a great D at home, imo.

Boyd is much better than Franklin (easy to say now I guess, Franklin stunk last year).....I truly feel Boyd will be playing on Sundays......and not just carrying a clipboard either.

Boyd has to like the recent news on our D but still believe we will control the game and can score as much as will be needed....then close things out with #'s 3 & 4.

You know growl, when I look at the numbers that Marshall put up in his freshman year, goes to show just how good his roommate Gurley is. Gurley had to learn a lot in 2012 also. With the experience he gained, 2013 could be huge.

Said a couple of months back that I would hate to be the defensive coordinator that had to game plan for these two backs, and the players with skills that also have to be covered or watched.

Tight End is going to be a position on this team that can cause many problems. I believe that we have two that are above average, and if Jay Rome has taken care of his business of serious blocking technique, going to cause more problems for the teams we face.

One thing is for sure with our quarterback. He is smart, understands the play book, the personnel that he leads, and has an above average work ethic. I don't disagree with Duck about AM totally, he makes good points. Leaves me with this . . . . going into the 2013 Season, AM has returned and there is a reason for that. He has an offense that is LOADED.

Guess it all comes down to coaching and game plans. Personally, don't see a single team on our 2013 schedule that we are not capable of beating. Just never really know, ball bounces funny sometimes. I do like what I read and talk to folks about the attitude of this 2013 group. Too bad that JHC and John Atkins slipped. More than anything, hope that JHC learns something from this issue, quite frankly, he seems a bit immature at this point in his life.

I think normally we could beat Clemsum, but I worry alittle due to the SC game is next and after that embarrassment last year, may be thinking ahead. I know that last year we were taking one game at a time, just hope that follows through this year. I know some times some feel that it is not a conference game, so lets just same our best of USC. They just need for leaders to step up, and let them know that every game is a step to the National Title.

wlayton, you are 100% right about the FSU defense. They fly to the ball and have a lot of talent. You and I living in the Sunshine State probably see and hear more about FSU and Florida than many others.

Do believe that we will know a lot about our team after the meeting with Clemson. Seems like a statement anyone would make.

If Clemson thinks like many of their posters think . . . . Be careful about this UGA group on defense. A lot of the Clemson chatter is how they took care of LSU. Frankly, when LSU knew that there would not be a National Championship, did not play up to their capabilities. My opinion.

Have watched Boyd video on youtube, wow. One thing that I think works in our favor is the turnover in support personnel that Clemson had last season. There are no doubts that Tajh Boyd plays on Sundays. Also appears wlayton that the young man from Gaineville, Georgia will fill the spot that Tajh will vacate. Feel that is a done deal.

Allow me this. FSU fans and supporters are solid with their university. Don't hear much about this at this point, there are some rumblings about their head coach. Many think that he is a really good coordinator, not sold on him as head coach. Most of the folks that I know and sometimes associate with from FSU say to the person, letting Mark Richt leave for UGA was a huge mistake. FSU would hire Richt in a heartbeat. Fact. :)
