Okay, here I go with some chatter about an article that I read concerning running backs. Overall, thought the article had enough to make some (me) wonder.
Comparison between Yeldon and Gurley. Both of these young players are head and shoulders above many running backs that are good, actually few reach the level of these two backs.
After reading the article couple of days back, could not get it out of my mind. Came up finally thinking this . . . .
It is almost impossible to draw a “true” distinction between the two. They play for different coaches that approach SEC football in different ways.
One thing is certain, year after year Nick Saban and company are going to have an offensive line second to “few” in college football. As anyone that has played the running back position will tell you (if they are honest) got to have a serious offensive line. A line that allows you to not only hit the outside, must be able to run between the tackles. Alabama is serious when they line up and do just that, run between the tackles. It has made McCarron a much better quarterback than many thought he would be at this point.
Might add that AM with his experience also made our running back position solid again, comes from his experience. Yes, Buc is a HOMER when it comes to AM.
For sure Georgia proved that it is possible to run between the tackles in 2012. Did it very well against most teams. Don’t think that I am stepping out too far when I say there was a difference between the offensive lines of Georgia and Alabama. That is not a slap, it is the truth. I could at this point say how proud I was of the offensive line in 2012, don’t have to do that, it is understood that the young pups stepped up and played some pretty good football. They were much better than even our head coach anticipated at the beginning of the season.
What I am trying to say is, hard for me to compare players with tremendous talent that don’t work behind offensive lines that are not the same. Would I swap Gurley for Yeldon, nope. Ask Alabama folks that question, they would say the same. Called wearing the COLORS. I prefer RED and BLACK.
Allow me this. We not only have a commitment from Sony Michel . . . . AJ Turman as I have mentioned before, will surprise. A lot of the talent in Florida like the way Georgia plays football. Mark Richt has a lot to do with that.
Say it again, hope we can keep this group of coaches together. I see depth building big time. I also believe that Will Friend was a great get. Keep him, he is ALL THAT.
Quarterbacking in the near future will be worth watching. Might see a couple of surprises. Just saying . . . .
