Good Morning All,

Much has been said this spring about how we are building quality position depth. A very good thing.

I can’t remember in the recent pass were more effort has been put out in building what we have come to learn as the next man up project.

Looking at any winning sports team what they all have common is players who can step in and play well when needed.

Yes we were late coming to understand just how important quality depth plays, however I also feel we have made up ground with our coaching staff who is now focused as a group on making this their mission. This will pay huge dividends now and in the future of Georgia Football.

Buc, I am thinking your Coach’m up plays a major factor in how this quality depth is reached.

Call it depth or double vision-GATA now and forever!

Pause and give thanks

Have a great weekend and a safe week

As always “Go Dawgs”

Go Dawgs!

Good morning yd1....thanks for your loyalty to start all of our weekends!!

Depth......yes, believe the "light switch" has come on in Athens. Not so sure we didn't have depth in the past but the coaches may not have had enough confidence in them to give needed playing time or a "rotation". Imo, depth is developed by playing time, not just bodies.

Hey, believe everyone remembers the days of "going both ways", huh?? Not much depth in those days....just tough it out and "suck it up". Although, Valdosta HS was so far ahead of everybody in that belief, they would dress out 100 players for every game (remember when we played them with about 35-40 players.....sometimes you faced a guy and his jersey wasn't even dirty).

Ah, the good old days.....that was football imo. Today is like synchronized swimming with all the specialization at every position and constant rotations for keeping everyone fresh and happy.

Oh well....life is always changing.

Have a great weekend everyone!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

Good Morning yankeedawg1. Was looking for the "Blue Plate Special" earlier this morning, gave it some serious thought. yd1 and "Georgia" are out quail hunting, trying to catch them on the roost before sunrise.

Then it came to me. You are retired and have earned the right after a successful career to lay in that bed an extra hour or two. Have found after retirement that I still seem to arise early.

yd1, all we had to do was look back over the changes in our coaching staff over a period of time, and let's be real, leadership and position coaches also. Red panties and friendship hiring does not put a pretty face on our program. Every person that puts a dime in the till to support our football team has a right to expect the best from leadership first, coaches and position coaches soon after. I am hoping, keeping my fingers crossed that McGarity will oversee the above, and demand that these young players get the best education and football training possible.

I have gone back and watched video of our game with South Carolina last season. I hope that I never have to witness our defensive line giving up as was the case in 2012. Hard to sit in front of the computer and watch young men give up, and then move on to the NFL for one reason, they have ball skills. If this group of 2013 front seven, especially the men with their hands in the dirt lose by the same number this season, but do not give up, I will get some satisfaction. Crossed fingers . . . . Chris Wilson will not play favorites and allow a lack of effort to hit the playing field.

Sorry about that, you mentioned depth, most of my posts or some of my posts mention depth. Saban/Smart have proven that it WORKS. Alabama will probably be ranked as #1 before the ball is snapped this season. Many of us don't have to wonder why . . . . next man up, whether injury or lack of effort.

Again, sorry about the length of chatter, just have my sights set on playing a difficult schedule with young folks, especially the defense, and the hope that Todd Grantham has helped UGA get it right.

Veterans are having a hard time with this administration. Some give blood and limbs, others in Washington party. :(

Go Dawgs, Coach'em Up!:)

Good post wlayton. I am one of those that has witnessed Valdosta and their "cast of thousands" lining up on the sideline. Yep, I not only remember, played both ways. Football has grown since my youth, but the folks in Valdosta knew back in the early years what it took to win football games. Think that Saban/Smart have continued that practice. :)

Buc, those were fun times but also pretty tough as well. I remember after college when I went to many of VHS's games, we all use to comment that they looked like GT running out on the field (that's when GT was always good). With their gold helmets and never ending stream of players running out on the field....pretty intimidating to opponents. Wright Bazemore was brilliant and a visionary in many ways.

Hey, remember all the "get tough drills" that had nothing to do with football? (or maybe that was just our "uninformed coaches"). A lot of senseless drills etc......Bazemore never did those things.....a few guys I talked to that played for WB said they worked on execution constantly (a lot of scrimmaging in pads ands shorts) and didn't do senseless hitting drills (not sure of my memory but thought they said they would hit about once a week.....ogredawg could give us the scoop).

Sorry, don't know why I got off on this tangent....guess I need to go back to work.
