Coaches Know What's Up Front? Really?

Read Bill King's column, hit me between the eyes, maybe I should say, felt sucker punched.

Column headline . . . .Coming out of spring, Georgia coaches know it’s what’s up front that counts.

Cannot disagree with that. Seems as if that has been discussed more than once on this site.

This is the first time in a long time that I think Mark Richt and his gang are close to doing some things differently.

Mentioned Nick Saban in an interview that I watched a couple of days ago. First thing that he talked about was his offensive line. Said Alabama has 8 or so that can play right now, meaning without losing a lot of top notch SEC play.

I know that some can pull up numbers of offensive linemen that we have recruited. That is not the problem from where I sit. The problem is the caliber of players they "get" and we "recruit".

I am also one of those that believes in the past that we went for the "flash" along the lines of IC. Must say again, I was very excited with IC moving to Athens. In the end, did not like some of the hardware that he moved with him.

Has the offensive line improved that much since the coaching change? We will find out in the opening game with Clemson.

Has the defense overall improved since coaching changes were made? I do know that the National Media picked up real quick on the defense, and that is the defense that Todd Grantham brought to Athens.

Defensive line, same can be said. Come opening night game against Clemson we will know a lot more.

When our Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Offensive Line Coach have differing thoughts with a line that is returning everyone, causes me great concern. My thoughts are that Will Friend knows what he is trying to do, and would suggest that the other two take care of the things they do best. Over the past few years our offensive line has not been one that other teams worried about. I don't blame that on Searels, I think that comes back to the "flash" recruiting of the higher ups. My opinion folks.

Might be this offensive line will be "all that". I sure as heck hope so. Bits and pieces I get tend to worry the you know what out of me. Don't care that it is "just Spring practice" should not be this much controversy among coaches. Did not hear any of that coming from Saban, however he is one that understands offensive and defensive linemen win National Championships.

And then there was this . . . .

“I thanked the Lord for 3 things: fried chicken, potato salad and for the fact that He had allowed me the privilege of being a Bulldog". And, Dear Lord, I prayed, “Bless all those not as fortunate as I"! Lewis Grizzard

To the coaches and players, reflection can be a very good thing. Review the past, but always look toward the future. :)

Then there was this . . . .

Bernie has become one of my favorites. Enjoyed reading the comments below in his article.

Ogredawg has been big on Carter, and I agree with that assessment, as is Grantham and I am sure Olivadotti. Hard not to like a player like DeLoach with the size and apparently the quickness he has. Also a Biology Major, I think.

This is what I think about some of the comments. It appears to me that our defensive coaches understand what they need and how to coach this young talent up. Coaches with the experience that our defensive coaches have don't look at stars as a way of grading players. Especially when it comes from those reporting for clicks. Coaches know what players fit their type of defense. Will be interesting to say the least this season.
