AM Serving Notice, I Like It

Appears that AM is going to change a couple of things in his final year. Actually, AM is going to do some of the things that he did when he took over the first team offense, way back when. Seems like forever.

There were some lively discussions on this board about AM running. Bobo and Richt were not for AM taking off with the ball as much as he did the first year. That has merit in my way of thinking. AM needed to learn to run the offense the way his coaches wanted him to. They after all were the reason for him wearing the Red and Black.

Looking at his stats, AM got the message and went on and developed into a pocket passer. A very good one actually. His stats going into his final year bear that out. Height can always be discussed, also, height without talent can be discussed.

Now he has taken a close look at himself, the team and what he thinks might benefit both the team and himself this season and in the next draft. If I am reading the link below correctly, it appears to me that AM is going to cause opposing defenses another problem . . . . young man says he will run. That could be huge, especially with the talent that surrounds AM. One example . . . . if we cannot contain Clowney, then we have to make Clowney think about more than beating a left tackle or a fullback, now AM is threatening to run. Make no mistake, AM has wheels. I like it.

Maybe watching the gains that Johnny Football made has made an impression on AM. Just guessing, but I would bet my bottom dollar that AM being the film freak he is has put some thoughts into his gray matter. Also facing a quarterback in our first game that runs, maybe better than he throws.

What you think after reading the Seth Emerson piece below . . . .

Imo.....only if he runs smart and mainly out of necessity (don't mind a few QB draws in a critical situation). Does need to move/adjust more in the pocket and/or roll out some to get the D's pass rush slower....but prefer the pocket 90% of the time and use the weapons around him.....they are USE to getting hit.

AM goes down, we are in trouble.

I would like to see AM run more often, but not to the extent that it becomes common place or detrimental. I believe that AM is a good athlete and by running in the right situations can make things very interesting for opposing defenses. This would add another dimension to an already strong offensive team looking for a way to hold on to the ball longer to avoid those pesky three and outs.

From reading the article, did not get the feeling that he was going to try to gain 1,000 yards or anything close to that.

Takes us back to the hit in Auburn couple of years ago, in the pocket and without a doubt, probably would have put some or many quarterbacks on the bench. Also had an incident in Atlanta when the referee watched the Alabama player lay the illegal hit on AM in the pocket.

One thing that is certain when it comes to talents like Clowney, they also watch film, know where to look for that next quarterback sack.

As before there will be differing opinions on this subject, that is good.

Going back to your first thought wlayton, only if he runs smart and out of necessity. Think that is probably what this will come down to. Even though we have all of our offensive linemen returning, not to be ugly, however not sure any offensive lineman in the country or the NFL can stop this young player. Think Clowney is around 270 now, under a full head of steam, not a pretty picture when he is finished. That is what I am suggesting, get the heck out of his way, slow his rush down. That can't always be accomplished with running plays to his side of the line.

South Carolina especially bothers me. Don't want SS and company to leave Athens with another victory. Know we are going to have a war against Clemson, don't know how much wind that will take out of our sails.

Don't want AM to go down, not good. Young man I compared to a gunslinger some time back, and that is the attitude that AM plays with. Did in high school, and has proven his toughness on the football field playing for Georgia. We will see some different things from AM this season, believe he is going to let it all hang out, wants to do more than he has prior to this season.

One thing for sure, AM is the leader of this team. He is respected by all of the players both on this team and those that are elsewhere now.

Have to say this. I am a little surprised that Mark Richt and Mike Bobo had not talked to AM sooner. They said that they did not get their feelings hurt, I want to believe that. One thing for sure, AM has given everything he has got to the University of Georgia, both athletically and academically. Here is hoping that he fulfills his college dream.

I'm with you Buc....AM is a DAWG through and through.

Certainly don't mind him running some to keep the D "honest" but not wrecklessly. Imo, he doesn't have to be "balls to the wall" when he has soooo many weapons around him that can take the pounding. He doesn't need that extra 7 yards when it could cost him and the team the rest of the season. Be smart and live for another play.

There's a reason Brady and Manning do NOT run........too VALUABLE.

wlayton, we are on the same page.

Very little that is passed along on the internet gets past most college football teams.

Never hurts to say TIC (tongue in cheek) that we are thinking about doing this. (AM running) SEC has become the "King of the Heavyweights" in college football, and not only do the media folks pick up on most things about SEC football, opponents do the same thing. Little rope-a-dope maybe.

Don't like saying this, however, Spurrier is one of the best at sending messages that don't mean squat. Primary reason being to get others on the defensive. Opposite of Spurrier is Saban, closed mouth and will jump a coach or the media in a bird dog minute. Different styles, same goals. Like it or not, keeps our conference in the forefront.

Maybe we have a quarterback that understands this type of mental play as well as he understands the playbook. Would not put this past AM. Smart, young, dedicated man. He is all about winning this season, only reason for him to return to Athens was to fulfill his dream. Quarterbacking UGA after AM has moved on, going to be tough shoes to fill. Really appreciate the young man.

Just a thought . . . . ;)
