UGA Defense Will Surpise . . . . Some

11 years 8 months ago #52005 by Buc
Think some on this board know that I am a supporter of Ramik Wilson. Read an interesting article on Ramik this morning in the ABH. Seems he is going to settle down and play on the inside this season. Herrera and Wilson on the inside, going to be a tough place for other teams to enter. Both of these guys will bring it, over and over.

Looking at the depth that is being built, yes I can see the strides being made under this group of coaches. None of this coming out of high school and the media boys placing 5*’s on a young man, and automatically getting playing time. When talking about the defense, like it or not, Grantham and company know who they want, what they have and when they will play.

Was not that long ago when Willie and his coaches played for the now. Bad thing there was, we entered each new season with problems. Some on the board say that it will take a while for this defense to jell, don’t disagree with that to a point. What might be being missed is that the defense has guys that played last season. Might not have played a lot of plays, but anyone that has played the game knows, any experience beats zero college experience. Don’t care how many stars the media boys place by a young player, cleats on the field change a lot of things.

Personally feel that the defensive side of the ball is in a position that the offense was in last season. Richt and Bobo were not sure about a lot of things. There is a difference though. Many of these young defenders as has been said, got some time on the field. That was not the case with the offense last season. Another reason that I continually praise Will Friend. Will Friend did an incredible job, we will see the fruits of his and the players efforts this season.

One last thingy about the linebackers. We are loaded. The competition there will make every position on the entire defense better. We have some hitters and hog hunters.

Go Dawgs . . . . Coach’em up!

Buc, really looking forward to watching RW this season......you enlightened all of us on him much like you did with AM and look how he turned out !!! :woohoo: :woohoo:

I believe the D is going to be really good too, just I am a little nervous playing Clemson and USC right out of the gate while some of our D guys may not be playing as "fast" as they will ultimately be playing as the season goes on. (equate our offensive slow start against USC as an example)

Hopefully the offense will start off fast and have the D's backs early on.....then when LSU comes into town, both units may just "light them up". The second half of the season could be EXCEPTIONAL......hoping for a shut down D with an offense in the top 5.

Said a prayer this morning in church for our kickers (ok, just kidding)

Thanks for the great article on Wilson.

wlayton you are on the mark, or doggone close. One word that came out of Ramik's mouth was "fast". Believe that Grantham and Olivadotti have this young man ready for a great season.

When we played in Orlando, wife and I were right behind the Georgia players, Ramik spent a lot of time there watching, but I really appreciated the fact that he was "in the game" visually. Think some of that has been missing in recent years. Ramik wants to play, has served his time, now it rests solely on his shoulders. Built along the same lines as Ogletree. If he is 90% of what Ogletree was, good things happen. Herrera will be a man possessed.

With you also on the kicking, that has my attention. Going to be more than one game this year that we are going to need an accurate foot. Have to keep our eyes on Muschamp, he knows that a loss in JAX means trouble for him. Georgia/Florida this season, if you have tickets, they will be worth a lot, know what I mean . . . . ;)

Buc & wlayton spot on with your comments and I agree.

Without question this is a very hungry defense. I sense that they knew that all was not right with the way our line played last season.

Back to my old standby statement this group to a man will play with passion and not take plays off.

Message is you want to change the conversation you need to do it on the field by winning this group has that in hand.

I hope y'all are right. I'm just a little concerned that TG's scheme is so complicated that it confuses our guys. There was a lot of guys out of position last year. Also going along the same line hope we have discipline along with the speed that we have. Already excited about this season.
