Beginning to see and read more back and forth between the Clemson and Georgia folks on the internet. One thing that I have noticed is . . . . There will always be the “crazies”. Have to make this point, not all of the “crazies” are “teenagers” or “newbies”. Many are older folks that carry feelings about years past. Once upon a time this was a game (Clemson/Georgia) not unlike many of the SEC games that UGA played in year after year that had meaning.
Frank Howard was one “tough” (can’t use the rest of that statement) dude, and he found a “Rock” that created some spirit that the troops still practice today. In high school I played football with a couple of players that Frank Howard wanted and got. One was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles and ended up being the last player cut by the Atlanta Falcons to make roster in Atlanta.
Steve Greer played for Georgia
onlineathens.com/stories/051309/foo_439082053.shtml, and later represented his/our University of Georgia well. Steve Greer was the spirit that Erk so often discussed with “his” defensive squad. Steve Greer is one of my heroes.
Think that we will see this board and others light up soon. There has always been a certain “thingy” between Clemson and Georgia.
Some of my reading on the internet comes from Clemson fans and supporters. Some from Clemson are saying, lose to us, but kick South Carolina’s butt, and move on to bigger and better things. That does not come from the “crazies”. Those statements come from folks that want to win the opening game, but harbor bad thoughts about SS and his group. Does not take long to understand that SS will get into your head, as he has done with Richt. Truth, but the truth goes past Mark Richt, beginning to think that Todd Grantham has been pulled into that way of thinking.
Comes a time when all of us want to say why either team wins and why. I go first.
Both of these teams are very good. What separates the two teams? Glad you asked.
If we accept the usual 3 point home field advantage, (between two equal teams) leads me to this . . . . Comes down to coaching. I worry about our field goal kicker. While he was adequate in Florida High School Football, he has not progressed. Another worry of mine is Mark Richt trying to introduce himself into the “kicking profession”. While I might be able to learn how to kick a football, it would over a period of time not make me a “teacher” in that area of the game. That statement coming from Mark Richt bothers me . . . . Still does. Don’t want to see this 2013 Edition of UGA Football playing four quarters and losing on a kick.
What is my reasoning for believing that Georgia (Red and Black) will win? Most will scratch their heads on this answer. Our Defense will be the difference in this game. I said that. Todd Grantham FINALLY has the “YOKE” removed from his neck. Mark Richt finally has the right combination of coaches together.
Go Dawgs!! Talent is on Campus . . . . Coach’em up. Return to Atlanta and beyond. One old farts thoughts.
