UGA Football -- Real Talk

Couple of thoughts . . . .

We have two tight ends returning, both above average.

Receivers, whether slot or wide, above average.

Two running backs that are, above average.

Senior quarterback, above average.

If we are going to be stopped from scoring points, would like to know which team or teams on our schedule can stop us, not shut us down, hold us under 20 points. I think about (20 points) for a reason.

Looking over our schedule, don’t see one team that is capable of that. If (if) we are (healthy) we are a team that can put points on the board. Not only in situations that all teams face, this group has the talent to start from the get go and never let up.

OK. Where does that leave us . . . . Us being the way I think with this thread.

Said about three months ago that I believe Todd Grantham’s time has come. Nope, did not forget that post.

If (if) this defense has what is necessary, there will be a point in any game that “they” have to make a difference. Sometimes the “lesser” side has to step up and “help” the dominate side. Don’t believe that . . . . Check the 1980 year. Might want to check last years offensive line stepping up. That same line that produced against many. They stepped up. My opinion.

Lot of you folks are not going to like me for this statement, but . . . . Seems that this board can only discuss Georgia Football during football season. See that on many boards other than this one. Basically what that says to me is most can only talk about what they read or watch during the season. Keeping up with future football players, don’t see much of that. Amazes me that most talk the Red and Black talk, actually makes me scratch my head. Words don’t match the action statements. Too many wait to read what the AJC and others have to say prior to posting. Don’t think that I speak the truth . . . . If so, let’s go back through the threads and see just exactly what most had to say and why.

Surprises me that there are no thoughts on what might be or could be. Come the season, there will be every opinion available, and quite frankly not one can stand on the sidelines or in the offices in the off season and make our team better.

Had a newbie come up and the only reply to that thread was thriller, and a thank you from DawgDoc.

Think I have figured this out. Most are too busy in their day jobs, and it is not football season. Will be interesting to watch the posts or lack of during the Spring drills, probably information that the AJC releases will be what most know about our team.

Not here to be liked or otherwise, I love UGA Football. Always looking for those that understand.

Only way it will happen Buc is if the offense lets it happen. INT'S, fumbles or just boneheaded plays is the only way this offense will not score at least 20 per game. Or being NOT READY like er um Carolina last year. We have got to be prepared right out of the gate this year Buc.....Clemsun and Carolina have lofty expectations and a win over the Dawgs by BOTH of them will vault them into the NC picture early on, and completley shatter the hopes of all on this board of any viable season. LSwho looms large down the road and the gaytors are not going to be push over either. The coaches will have to have them prepared each and every week. No let downs like the Carolina fiasco of last year please.

As far as participation I for one like to sit back and watch and see how things play out after the spring drills and G Day. Then I will have a perspective on how this team is going to look.

Good Evening,

Buc as you and others know I save up and post on Friday. However there has been times that I have joined the fray during the week.

Not shy about my passion for the R & B.

Great point on how one side takes up the slack. I have said it before that this may be a "No Name D" to start but by the time we hit JAX jersey #'s and names will be known.

As the spring rolls on into summer I can feel you can sense how important our bowl win was.

This along with us playing Bama so close in the SECCG sets our jib just a tad tighter.

We will have the "O" to cover both Clumpson and the Chickens

Clumpsom word up- we will be ready.

Stay safe, As always "Go Dawgs"

Go Dawgs!

ogredawg, really good point about down the road after opening with Clemson and South Carolina. You have been one over a long span that has brought up the issue of "depth". As pointed out more than once, all we have to do is check out what happened to Grantham's defense in Atlanta.

Where was the depth in Atlanta on defense? Also as has been mentioned earlier, took Jarvis Jones in Orlando to motivate our defense. I would say this to Jarvis, respectfully. Todd Grantham did not prepare last years defensive team to win against a team the caliber of Alabama. Grantham has said since the season came to a close that he made a mistake, or came close to saying he made a mistake in not having more players ready to play. Vows that will change this season.

Not to labor on the point of Garner, but I believe that the best thing that could have happened to UGA was for Garner to move on. Just because one is a superior recruiter, does not mean that transfers over to the coaching side. Again, Garner is gone, took some recruits with him that were strong possiblities to play beween the Hedges. Water over the dam, now it is time for Todd Grantham to be all he can be. Outside looking in, still see more than one tier of talent capable of playing time in Athens. I look over the list of eligible players in Athens, come away shaking my head when watching them sit on the bench.

One piece of news coming out early in Spring Camp was the fact that many "tussles" were happening. Tells me that some of these young pups know that the competition will be intense. When all return to Athens, this will probably be one "testy" group fighting for playing time. Mark Richt mentioned the "tussles" and had a serious grin on his face. Another change in Richt's attitude toward coaching. Some have said that he has had that side to him all along, can go along with that. Do know this, that is not the side he was showing to those of us on the outside looking in. Much has changed in Athens, and with Garner leaving, there will be more changes. In my opinion, changes for the better. Hope this defensive line is deep, and mean as hell.

yankeedawg1, if Nebraska had come out on top in Orlando, the effects of that game would still be haunting us. Nebraska was a very good football team, but so was Georgia. Their quarterback plays football much like "Johnny Football" does at TAM. Brings me to this. It is being said that AM will run more this season. Can't say that I buy that, has too much talent to be taking a lot of risks. This offense comes to play, could be an awesome offensive year. That is not telling anyone anything new, it is a fact.

Close with this. Mark Richt made a very good hire when he brought Will Friend on board. In my opinion, Friend did more with less than any coach on our team or most teams in the SEC. "High Fives" to Will Friend, hope he has a long career in Athens.

Garner leaving is the best thing to happen to the D. Now I think CTG has everyone on board with his system. So far from what I am reading at numerous places is that the playing time given to the "young pups" to include special teams is now paying off. JHC, Jenkins, Deloach, Carter, Bowman are stepping up to fill the void. Can't wait for G day to have a real good look at what the coaches put on the field.

The offense looks solid and has talanted leadership and now an experienced offensive line that should gel right away no matter who the final five are, and a few who can interchange without losing a step if one or more go down. The offense has it all and should score lots of points. Play smart be perpared and get the ball into the hands of the playmakers which there are many, and it will not only be a great season but a record smashing season to boot.

Buc, it is kind of hard for me to change my ways, like I say many times before, I am not much for talk. While I admitted the other day, I feel better about UGA football and the way it is coming, I still can't say what to expect from this team. I saw what USC did to us last your and we have the same offence this year. True, our OL has one year more experience, but look at the year before that, we had experience and the biggest OL in college football. It is just hard for me to say, who knows Gurley may do nothing this year, the OL may be worse than ever, AM may be terrible. I really don't think these thing will happen, but I just like to sit back and let these guys show me what they want, and how they can play. As I said last week, I think we have the right players and coaches, just until we play games and can win the big games and put away the teams we are suppose to destroy, then I will always be a pessimist I guess.
