Went back and read the beginning of this thread. Something was sticking in my head and had to be sure, or think I was sure in what I am going to say.
Believe it was ogredawg a while back that said Chris Mayes needed to step up. Not going to go back and look for the exact comment, but had the feeling that ogredawg was not that impressed with Mayes in Mississippi playing football. Could be wrong, but if so, ogredawg will set me straight.
When Mayes played high school football in Spalding Country, was really hoping that he was ready. First off, did not make the grades, made the trip to MGCCC. This young man along with many has so much potential, have been around long enough to know that sometimes potential does not meet expectations.
Believe that Jonathan Taylor is going to line up as #1 at Nose Tackle/Guard when we travel to play Clemson on National TV. Also believe that JT is going to make all of us forget what we thought we had at Nose Tackle last season. Going to give up 20 or 30 pounds, bright side is that we have a young man that "wants" to play Red and Black Football. Not sure we ever saw that from our two Nose Tackles last season.
Kwame needed Jenkins to come in and "motivate" him.
Jenkins came in out of shape, and I don't believe he ever got in shape. My opinion. Sure as heck did not impress the way he was touted. Totally disappointed with him not playing a full 2012 Season, not with the team when UGA traveled to Orlando. Chris Mayes, stop and take a look, maybe you can and will become what so many of us thought you could and can be. You have the tools, get the mental/physical part down and the NFL will be there for you. You will also make old farts like me appreciate your efforts.
Something else that comes to mind. I saw Jarvis Jones crawl the Defensive Teams Butts on the sidelines in the Orlando bowl game. He was pp'd. Haven't said much, have read on the internet where UGA picked it up in the fourth quarter. Jarvis Jones was a leader. That in my mind is the one person that is going to be hard to replace, especially from a leadership stance. Jarvis Jones read the riot act to his teammates.
