Some Thoughts . . . . Again

Watched the entire NFL showcase of incoming players, lot of talent ready to move up.

Couple of things stick in my mind, had me re-thinking 2012.

Cornelius Washington all but blew the lid off of the “linebacker” drills.

When CW came out of high school, I was a happy camper, mentioned that fact more than once on this board when CW moved to the Athens Campus. CW was not a huge young man, but he changed that once he hit the Campus in Athens. Anyone that watched him in Indianapolis saw how his body had changed from high school to the NFL Combine. JTII was another move in the development of Mark Richt.

Not going to go too far to the negative, but what I saw CW do in Indianapolis compared to what I watched him do while wearing the Red and Black, have to say . . . . bothered me. Watching a man of his height, weight, speed and strength and reflect on the 2012 Season for sure, don’t understand.

Going to make a U-turn here concerning CW and coaching.

This makes me wonder just exactly what was going on with that defensive front. Think about this . . . . CW supposedly was being trained and led by Garner, have to speak about what I think I saw.

Todd Grantham is the leader of the defense. How is it that a man of CW’s talent as shown in Indianapolis could be less than average playing college football. Always expected more from CW, when I go back and look at film, don’t see a motivated player in 2012. 2011, CW appeared to be ready to “be all that” . . . . 2012, not the same. Could be that was one of the problems with the “messy up” by CW . . . . Frustrated. No, don’t think that playing in a 4/3 or a 3/4 had anything to do with what Washington was capable of, truly believe he had no interest with what was going on around him. Will say this, I believe that Washington will be all that in a 4/3 in the NFL.

Take the above a step further. I believe that more was known about RG being ready to hang it up in Athens, move on to Auburn than those of us on the “outside” knew. Sure as heck did not get a hint from the “media boys” . . . . alerting us that Garner would depart. One would think that the group at the AJC would have or could have sniffed this change coming.

Still wonder about the young players that many thought UGA had a chance to land this recruiting period and did not. This was not a last minute decision by Garner, and I will never believe that he did not relay that on to potential UGA recruits. Recruits talk, think that played out in some of the recruits going to “unexpected” teams. Players being recruited want to know where their position coaches will be when they sign, all of us know that. Called being comfortable in our job. Example of that . . . . Davin and Todd Grantham and Davin’s Mom.

I am a great believer in “comfort zones”. Still think that we have not reached that pinnacle, I do believe that we are far ahead of where we have been for . . . . “pick a straw” . . . . a long while.

Also believe that a team can and should change coaches, but there has to be a core that remains. Garner was very much a part of that “core” for many years. Speaking of course for myself, I do believe that the hiring of Todd Grantham ended Garner’s thoughts or moving up in a program that he had been involved with for many, many years.

This “might” be my last comment concerning Garner. I truly hope that he does well in his new position on the Plains. There are enough football players in the State of Georgia, year after year, to keep the Alabama schools head above water. All UGA supporters know that Auburn and Alabama need to recruit on the Georgia side of the Chattahoochee. I did notice that the new “Head Coach” moved Garner . . . . Laterally.

Now it comes down to whether or not Todd Grantham is all that. Grantham might find out that 300 lbs. versus 350 lbs. with good hips, strength and wanting to win, could be the answer to that “five yards” and excess YPC that Alabama put on the field.

Half of this was typed several days ago, nope, not copying anyone, I don’t do that.

Have had some messages and emails about posting. Care about this board, care about each and everyone that comes here with "solid thoughts". Do not think there is a "bad egg" in the bunch.

Yankeedawg1, as often mentioned by you . . . . JTII is doing his job. Also, God Bless never hurts.

Go Dawgs, Coach'em Up . . . . Looking forward to the 2013 Season, first two games . . . . all about coaching and athletes.
