Tennessee commits suicide

UT hires Butch Jones, leader of the mighty Bearcats of the Big East, to run their football program.

We are all about to see what happens when a man who was a much better leader of the mighty Bearcats of the Big East, who almost lead them to the national championship game, leads a traditional power into battle against the SEC. It's not going to be pretty.

It was fun while it lasted, Vols. Looking forward to overtaking the series against UT in these next couple games here. That program might very well be going the way of Minnesota circa 1960.

Yeah... heard that earlier and put it in another thread (Because I rarely start new topics)..

I dunno if it's a terrible hire. I think he's a pretty solid coach. The question becomes
how well he can recruit down here.

I think it might seem like a worse hire than it really is because they tried to get some other
people before moving on to him. We all know though that sometimes your 3rd choice works out okay.

God Bless and Go Dawgs

Read some comments from UT fans early this morning, most were not too thrilled.

So right about playing football in the SEC UGAChemDawg, no easy outs in this league, home runs are hard to come by.

Really don't see either Tennessee or Auburn improving their stance a lot. How quickly the high and mighty can and usually do fall.

Franklin's reputation in Tennessee will improve substantially, and the Tennessee folks watching Vanderbilt improve, not going to be a pretty picture.

I agree with Wartdog, I think he is a pretty good coach as well.

If he can recruit the same type athletes that Dooley was able to, I believe it will be a step up- coaching wise. I have watched a few Cincinnati games last couple years and they played pretty good football.

Recruiting in the south will make him or break him in my humble opinion.

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

Totally agree with Wart and bulldawg36869......imo nothing wrong with his coaching ability, his success will be pedicated on whether he can recruit. You NEED the NFL type players in this league.....can he recruit them?.....guess we'll find out.

TN Dawg, agree with you on Butch Jones' coaching ability, so many young coaches in all conferences that understand football.

Comes down to as you say, can he recruit against many top coaches and assistants in the SEC that are firmly established. That will be tough. Will have his hands full recruiting in state against Franklin in my opinion. When he starts his forays into Georgia, Alabama and Florida, competition is stiff. We at UGA understand just how difficult it is to keep players with the home team.

Jones will have to produce quickly, maybe not first year, but soon thereafter. Tennessee thought that Derek Dooley would be able to do that, we know how that turned out. Fans in this day and time have much shorter fuses that say fans several years ago.

Think he is going to have a real hard time turning that program around. If Strong had taken the job at Tennessee, would have made me look a bit closer.

Just heard that Tommy Tuberville is heading to Cincinnati to take the head coaching job over. Have voiced my opinion on Tuberville as far back as his days in Auburn. Don't like him, don't like his ways, and this POS pulled another boner this season against an assistant at TT. Appears to me that he had to find a place to coach after his latest sideline encounter.

Don't know what it is about Auburn, seems trouble resides just around the corner from the Plains.
