A Look at UGA Football

A lot of buzz going on concerning UGA running backs. Folks, this could not make me feel any better. Took some time looking over what we have been going through the last few years, this group is a God send, Freshmen up to Seniors, and they are getting along . . . With each other.

Anyone that thinks that one back is going to be the “Big Bopper” this season . . . guess we can discuss that, like what I see, several young men “wanting” to carry the ball. Different situations could very well call for different alignments this season, that however does not move me from smiling ear to ear about a group that “wants the pigskin”. I truly believe that this group is “different” than what we have watched for many years, maybe in Mark Richt’s time on campus.

This offensive line is going to make it a point to give this group of backs running room. Will Friend will demand that. Running room with each of these backs is different. Think about that. Some have exceptional speed, others have good speed and toughness, while some of these guys will run it through a wall, others only need a “crack”.

I hope that we are ready to use those “swing/flat passes with this group”. If these young men can catch as well as they run, SEC defenses will have many nightmares trying to match up.

Clowney and others, regardless of where he/they line up, guessing game is on them if our offensive coordinator gets away from the usual. Mike Bobo has more talent I believe than he has had since taking on the title of coordinator. That is not a shot at Mike, can’t do that yet . . . . Damn ball is in his court. There is not a “material shortage”, he has to build this group into something that is “possible”, just has to put the pegs in the right holes.

Don’t really know what I am trying to say other than I hope to see a serious outcome with this group that has said loudly that they are thinking championship, and I don’t think they are talking about SEC East Championship as their only goal.

One little extra. The world of media college football experts have called openly for Lane Kiffin to knock the SEC off of its perch. Think about this. Lane Kiffin coaches Southern California and they are on probation. They have 75 scholarship players . . . . UGA has 75 or so scholarship players . . . . USC is the #1 ranked college football team going into the season. Of course that is according to which poll we are looking at. At any rate, Lane Kiffin in a short amount of time has that program moving forward . . . . Fast. Lane Kiffin also had Tennessee moving forward quickly. Time for us to buckle down and follow what I think I see coming from Mark Richt. Don’t let this group of UGA players fall short Richt, kick butt and take names if necessary. Appears that you sir are on course, that ball that we speak of on this board is in your court.

Go Dawgs, coach’em up. . . . :)

growl, apparently Ken has worked hard and is being rewarded. Believe him to be above average carrying the ball. Not sure the first game will be a real test. Below is a humorous youtube, does have a couple of words that could have been left out. If you haven't seen it, take a look.

Have been reading a lot of National news about the Dawgs. Most are high on UGA, but are quick to point out the "soft schedule" as reason they are picked #6. Don't put a lot of stock in preseason polls. Why don't we look at what happened last year and what improvement, or lack of improvement, has been made going into the season. Maybe lack of improvement is a harsh term, however I do have concerns.

My short list of improvements:
*defense - d played well last year. Improved over the year and expect to continue. Not happy with suspensions pending on that side of ball.
*running game - upgraded with two top recruits. Both are learning and expectations are high. Not to mention returning RS-IV and KM. Good stable of backs. Let's use them all!
*QB - Murray is one of the best in SEC. Needs to protect ball better, but still more experience and talent than most other teams have.
*Field goal unit - only one way to go ... up. Lost two games because of missed FGs. Uncharacteristically poor last year.
*TE - to have OC last year, he seemed to disappear as season progressed. Must use the TE more.

DId we improve:
* O line - biggest concern. This unit will need consistency if our young RBs are to flourish.
* RB - As this was an improvement is also a concern. Hoping the two veteran RBs will handle bulk of load and youngsters will learn as season progresses. I worry more about blocking schemes rather than just running. At least no more distractions.
*Receivers - I consider moving MM to defense a mistake. He is a playmaker who needs the ball.
*Play calling - I am ready to get blasted here, but can't help it. Doesn't matter who we put on the field with CMB's vanilla play calling. When half the people in the stands know what play we are about to run, we are in trouble. Guess what? The other teams DC also knows!

Don't mean to rain on any parades this morning. Just have been taking to some UGA faithful who are ready to buy NC tickets and bet the farm. I have high expectations, but have had my heart stomped on too many times. I will wait until after the Missou game before I put on the "Bulldog colored glasses". Talk is cheap at this juncture. Time to strap on the cleats! Go Dawgs!

Good post TN D....

Do believe you will see MM on the offensive side more as the season moves on....need him on D against Mizzou. He initially was recruited as a DB.

Good Posts...

It's okay to be cautious TNDawg...

I'm ready to see them do well, and they don't play the games on paper.

Ready to see the swing pass back in the offense. Want to see the TE get the ball at least 5 catches a game. (Personally I would like to see more, but I will settle for that, to many weapons on offense) FB needs to catch the ball 2 to 3 times a game, and run it 2 to 3 times a game, changes the way the ends and LB have to play the game. If we can get the ends and LB on their heels, we are in business.

As Buc always says, "Coach'em up"! We need you CWF to be the man with O-Line.

GO DAWGS!!

Getting way too excited. :silly: :woohoo:
