Blame Stops with You!!

I start this thread because I am tired of questioning why my University and others have to read stories such as the one below. This young man is "feeling the love" that Ole Miss is giving him and being neglected by other schools. Got some news for you pal, there is a thing called opening the books and making passing grades in high school. With your talent, taking the time to crack a book or books or listen to your teachers, you would not be facing the problems that you just went through. No ones fault but your own.

Maybe those of us that support folks like you just "don't understand" according to one of our better football players. Appears that Freeze is serious about facing up to SS, hope that happens. Wonder why others in the SEC did not hitch their wagons to you. Freeze will be watched closely also, he is taking a program that was once one of the top programs in the country that has fallen from those ranks. Does not take long for certain scholarship offers to totally mess a program up.

I sincerely hope that you gained something from the time you enterd the junior college circuit . . . other than football. Football talent that you have/had was recognized, the other issues were not on the front page. Maybe your high school coach could/should have been closer to your academic side. Just win baby, right, just win football games. Where will you be 5/10 years from now, Ole Miss won't remember your name. FACT.

Buc , I guess that is why I don't get too excited about early commitments. These guys are for the most part so clueless as to what a college education takes and feel they are entitled to free passes when it comes to class, laws, rules etc.

Was reading the article on Shamire DeVine, says he is 100% committed to Tech but wants to go visit Hawaii, California and New York.

If I was PJ I would tell him if you go there may not be an offer for you when you get back. I get the free trips to see the country but at some time the schools have got to get tough with these kids. Thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours are put in to recruiting these kids and they act like its a trip to the five and dime.

Right or wrong, I don't get excited about recruits until they are signed and qualified.

Some are wise and some are otherwise !

bulldawg36869, good to see you back.

Guess all of us are guilty that follow recruiting so closely. Recruiting is one of my favorite times during the season. But you are right, something has changed and I don't think it puts college football in a better light.

Top recruit (supposedly) in the nation is busy laying the ground work for one of his teammates to enter Clemson with him. While Clemson may get a very good, maybe exceptional football player, in my opinion they are opening an alley that will hurt them at some point. Next recruit that comes along and wants the same deal and it mushrooms from there.

Number two recruit (supposedly) in the country played a game with early commitment to Alabama, had a grand time in Athens, ends up with Auburn, lots of youtube coverage along with the media. Some of #2's friends have said that all would play at the same university . . . . . like you mentioned bulldawg36869, don't count those chickens before they hatch. . . .

After I found out how "stars" are "awarded" to players for the number of offers they get, and knowing what the term "cumulative advantage" means, I no longer care if someone "de-commits". Here is an interesting article that explains "cumulative advantage". If you have the patience to read the whole thing, you'll see that the system of awarding "stars" is going to naturally amplify differences that may be minute.

Sure, predicting success in the entertainment industry has to be a lot different than football, but maybe not as different as you think. Where "popularity" is difficult to predict, so is the ability or aptitude to do well in academics and/or D1 athletics. The latter may be SLIGHTLY easier to predict, but obviously it's far from an exact science.

Edit: [This kinda explains how Boise State and their two and three star athletes could whip a bunch of 4 and 5 start "studs".]

thriller, have read some thoughts from others over a period of time that reflect closely to the way you and many of us feel.

Let me bring this down to my level. The hoop-la begins early with many of the 4/5* rated athlets. Many that have played football, whether in pee wee, college or pro know that "some" coaches for different reasons seem to "favor" certain players. That is also reflected in star studded Hollywood and other places.

Example of Hollywood stars . . . . many that wanted to rise in the profession were allowed to do so if they allowed certain favors to those in control.

Alumni often times play a large roll in a certain player or players getting an offer. Politics are very similar in college football as is the case in Washington.

Too often all of us sell out for that 5* player. All of us want the same thing, a win. I like the point that you made thriller, check Boise State out and what their lower graded stars did to the higher rated stars at Georgia.

Just finished listening to Emmert, leader of the NCAA. Anyone reading this board knows exactly how I feel about the NCAA. Emmert said a year ago to his board that he wanted change and wanted it now. What I witnessed today on the tube was a man standing very tall and calling it like a true referee should. We need more of this from our football coaches and presidents.

Knoxville paper is reporting that Shaq Wiggins is visiting UT. Wiggins says he is "solid on UGA", but sill planning on taking all 5 of his official visits. If he is "solid" on UGA why is he going to UGA, UF, UT, Vandy & Clemson or Ole Miss?

If you are a coach at one of the other schools he is planning on visiting, wouldn't you consider it a waste of time to be recruiting someone who is not intending on coming to your school? Never mind ... I think I just answered my question.
