Discipline

This is a very unpleasant subject for me,but, do any of you think that the UGA football program is being singled out for a lack of discipline by the media or is there really something there? Personally I believe that when Evans pulled his stunt the microscope was zeroed in. Is UGA to easy on discipline? Does the media only report the negative when it comes to UGA?

I'm not sure Growl, it seems that we were hit pretty hard with arrest on 09 and 10. Then last year we made it through with very few problems. I believe CMR ran a loose ship in 09 and 10, but got a handle on things in 11. Not saying that he has let up from last year, but these kids now days are just so hard to handle. You'd think the good players with NFL potential would shy away from trouble and stay true to their values. I have seen over the internet where a good many schools have had problems with players also. Like I said, I think it is just the nature of these kids now days.

Duck, I believe we have a good group of kids, by listening to some of the folks on here that know them, and would not want to lump them in with the ne'er do wells that all walks of life have. The reason I started this thread is to get idea if UGA is paying attention to the backgrounds of some recruits or do we turn a blind eye for the sake of winning. For some reason I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the latter. We're all use to some programs around the country having these problems and for a long time UGA seemed to be blessed with few problem kids, but, a few years ago that seemed to change. I know that problems will be there from time to time, but are we doing enough to confront them head on and make the program better or do we sweep them under the carpet so that they are out of the way. I hope UGA is doing the right thing for the school and the program.

Georgia does not keep things in house like other teams Richt doesn't try and cover up things because it's going to get out anyway as far as dicipline Richt is tougher than any coaches in the SEC.:)

Here are the young men that we don't hear about in the Mullett Wrappers. This is the kind of blogging that keeps me focused on the job at hand. Positive and factual information about some of the recently added players to our team. Gathered this information from dawgbark.com.

Jay Rome – 6’6 255 – TE
Jay Rome was a very highly recruited TE in the 2011 recruiting class and was stuck behind Orson Charles and Aron White on the depth chart. After a redshirt season that allowed him develop physically and study the playbook he needs to show that he is ready for a significant role on the team in 2012. Jay has been playing with the basketball team after the conclusion of the football season which has allowed him to get into better condition and has improved his hand-eye coordination. In the spring expect to see big things from Jay as he competes for a starting TE position on opening day.

Keith Marshall – 6’0 205 – TB
You read that right, 205. Keith Marshall has been on campus and working hard with the S&C and nutritional coaches toad some more muscle to his frame in order to be able to take the pounding in the SEC. When he got to campus in he was about 190 pounds and has already broke the 200 pound barrier. If you were wondering how that extra weight would affect his speed just watch him race Malcom Mitchell. It will be fun to watch him push Crowell and see exactly how fast he has learned the playbook. According to his teammates Marshall, a 4.3 student in HS, already knows the playbook.

Christian Lemay – 6’3 210 – QB
The plan at UGA is for Hutson Mason to redshirt this season so that he would have an opportunity to play after Aaron Murray graduates. That means that during the spring Christian Lemay will be seeing extended reps with the 1st and 2nd team offense. Lemay was a highly touted recruit coming out of Butler HS in Charlotte, NC who did not play during his senior year of HS. He is athletic, has a live arm, and is regarded as being very accurate. It will be interesting to see if he emerges as the heir apparent to Aaron Murray.

Watts Dantzler – 6’7 325 – RT
Watts Dantzler is a monster of a young man at 6’7 325. As a matter of fact he is slimmer now than he was coming out of HS losing approximately 20 pounds. He has added muscle and lost a lot of fat which has made him much stronger and more athletic. He heads into spring practice along with Mark Beard as the favorites to be the starting RT on opening day. It will be very important for UGA in 2012 that Dantzler has developed and is now SEC ready. UGA needs him!

Ray Drew – 6’5 265 or 285 – OLB/DE
How big is Ray Drew now? That is a major question for UGA entering spring practice in 2012. Ray Drew looked like a physical specimen coming out of HS at 265 pounds but it looked like with his frame he would fill out to 285-290 pounds. We saw him play a little in the Michigan State game and that was with his hand in the ground as a DE when UGA used a four man front. Has he kept his weight around the 265 level so that he can play OLB in 2012 or has he worked with S&C coaches and nutritional staff to bulk up to 285 where he will play at defensive end? It will be very fun to see in the spring because all has been quiet on the Ray Drew front.
