Ohio State Penalty

Ohio State gets a slap on the wrist according to ESPN and of course they should know......

Ohio State received a one-year bowl ban in addition to an extra year of probation and the loss of additional scholarships in an NCAA Committee on Infractions report to be released later Tuesday, sources told The Columbus Dispatch and ESPN.

In addition, former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will be saddled with a "show-cause" penalty, which will require any school that hires him to be subject to penalties unless it proves why it should escape sanctions.

The Dispatch, citing multiple sources, reported that Ohio State will not play in a bowl game in the 2012 season.

A source confirmed that to ESPN's Joe Schad, and added that the school is not likely to appeal the sanctions.

The NCAA report is due out at 3 p.m. ET.

The Dispatch also reported that Ohio State will lose four additional scholarships per year for the next three years. That's on top of the loss of five scholarships the school self-imposed. The NCAA also added a year of probation, meaning Ohio State will be subject to stiffer penalties for any repeated violations through the 2013 season.

The penalties come just three weeks after the Buckeyes hired former Florida coach and ESPN commentator Urban Meyer as the team's new coach.

Tressel was cited for failing to report that some Buckeyes had sold memorabilia and for allowing ineligible players to compete in the 2010 season, including in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. At the time, Tressel warned his players, rather than telling athletic department officials.

Among those accused of selling items to a Columbus-area tattoo-parlor owner was quarterback Terrell Pryor, who later left school and was drafted by the Oakland Raiders.

Previously, Ohio State put itself on probation for two years; vacated the 2010 season, including the Ben Ten and Sugar Bowl titles; and forfeited its $338,811 share of Sugar Bowl proceeds.

No wondering why Urban Meyer took the coaching job now. Read in another place where he pretty much knew what was coming. NCAA is a bag of hot air. So right ogredawg, slap on the wrist. Wonder how Southern Cal is taking all of this.

Another bothersome thing to me is Urban Meyer is the head coach and he and probably some of his hires are on the road recruiting. Therefore, this years coaches remain with the team getting ready for the Gator Bowl. Is that not double dipping? Two sets of coaches, don't think that is allowed in the NCAA rules.

Couple of quotes from AD Smith and Head Coach Urban Meyer. Think Urban and Smith knew a little something . . . . Urban could not control the gators, check the arrest record and now AD Smith is talking about moving forward, he should have been removed like Tressel. Amazing how noting is coming from the lips of the President. I really do not like Urban Meyer, like him less than Steve Spurrier, but Franklin at Vandy is enemy number one for me.

“We are surprised and disappointed with the NCAA’s decision,” athletics director Gene Smith said in a statement. “However, we have decided not to appeal the decision because we need to move forward as an institution.
"We recognize that this is a challenging time in intercollegiate athletics. Institutions of higher education must move to higher ground, and Ohio State embraces its leadership responsibilities and affirms its long-standing commitment to excellence in education and integrity in all it does."

Meyer took the job as Ohio State’s 24th head coach on Nov. 28, and did so, he said, with his eyes open about what could come from the NCAA, but feeling good about the prospects.
“I just did a lot of research” before he took the job, Meyer said on Monday. “I contacted people outside of Ohio State before I accepted the position, some trusted people I have within the NCAA and other people that dealt directly with the NCAA.”

I decided not to let that petty little man (vermin meyer)get under my skin. Just whip his ass on the football field and he'll just go away,no more need to give him any more thought.

growl, I hope that Florida puts it on Ohio State. Some on this board cannot pull for the gators, understand that.

If any of us look deep enough, like today's ruling by the NCAA for example, have had enough of the crap that comes out of the media butts North of the Mason/Dixon. Ohio State has their new "cheater" out recruiting. This years coaching staff (Luke) is preparing the football team for the Gator Bowl. Never like double teaming and cheating. Have seen enough of that on some of the blogs.

Another "smart, cheating" move by Urban Liar Myer. Has Luke "supposedly" running the program while he is on the road recruiting. I hate, HATE Ohio State and the NCAA.

I am however full of joy at Christmas time . . . . MNC is between LSU/ALABAMA. Put that in your damn pipe and smoke it . . . Big Whatever. . . . Crystal remains in the SOUTH.

Go Dawgs, MSU is coming to play.
