Something to be ashamed of...

This makes me mad:

The new US News and World Report rankings of the best colleges just came out the other day.

We are no longer a top 20 public school (fell from 20 to 25) and no longer top 60 overall (fell from 56 to 62). We were leaped by tOSU and Texas A&M.

I wonder how much Mike Adams has to do with this sudden, drastic decline.

I also don't understand how Miami/Thug U is 38 on this list. There is no way Miami is a top 40 school. About the only good news is that Florida is continuing their steady decline. They were top 50 tied with Penn State and UT-Austin 3 years ago, then they were 52 last year and now they're 58. Here's to hoping the over-rated lizards continue their downward spiral.

On a positive note, the data shows the ratio of female
to male students appears favorable compared to many
others. I think that is an area that needs to be weighted
more heavily.

meh..Big 10 schools didn't get much love either and they have some very fine institutions academically.

The thing is though...

The methodology of the ranking indicates they are using well established and accepted academic standards, student retention rates, and measurable alumni support. It's not something to be brushed aside because it's a subjective popularity vote.

This is irrelevant. Look at how they rank them. Means nothing. All you have to know is that with the Hope scholarship, and every kid in Georgia having the means to go to school if they try, UGA has raised their requirments tremendously. It is harder to get into UGA than any SEC school not named Vanderbilt.

I graduated UGA in 1990, and would not GET IN today. With the addition of the Medical school and the new Engineering school, UGA is in fine company for public schools.

We are up there with Virginia and UNC, good company for state institutions.

I am NOT ashamed to say I graduated from UGA. Why should I?????
