Dear friends,
On Saturday, March 10th 2007, my colleague and friend, biochemistry phd student Yongsheng Li, was reported missing by his wife. He left his apartment on routine business and never returned.
I first learned of his disappearance when I returned to Athens from Spring break on Friday March 16th and went for a walk in the State Botanical Gardens, where I saw a poster with his face on it. It was quite shocking.
The mood in Dr. Puett's lab had been somber. We carried on our work and research as usual, but it was obvious his absence was grating on our minds. Yongsheng was a great scientist and, more importantly, a great human being who took great interest in his work and was always pleasant and eager to help others. We all hoped for his safe return.
Yesterday, March 25th 2007, our worst fears were confirmed. Yongsheng's body was found in the lake behind the women's sports complex on South Milledge Ave between the Botanical Gardens and Whitehall Road.
Cause of death has not been determined, as his body has been sent to the GBI and we are awaiting autopsy results.
Please take a moment to remember Yongsheng and keep his wife and family in your thoughts.
