My idea for conference realignment

Since we're talking super conferences, I thought I'd offer up my simple, elegant solution:

The SEC absorbs every BCS school east of El Paso and south of the Mason-Dixon line.

We then divide up into as many divisions as necessary to have a manageable schedule, with the champion of each division participating in a tournament leading to the conference championship.

Lock down exclusive tv contracts with all the major networks, rotate the SEC championship game between Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans, and Miami, and declare the SEC championship to be the national championship and don't even participate in the bowl season with the rest of college football.

This would make the pac and big some numbers of the world a defacto second level of football between the SEC and the mid-majors, and recognize the SEC championship for the national championship that it is.

Drop 40 of the ridiculous teams in the NCAA back to Division 2 where they belong. I don't really care which 40, but I think teams like Eastern Michigan, Ball State and Idaho would be better off (at least in the won/loss column) there than where they are now.

Now that leaves us with 80 teams. I think that's plenty.

Divide those 80 teams up into conferences any way you want, preferably by geography. Make it 8 conferences each with 10 teams. Drop one of the 12 games in the regular season, since we don't need a patsy game and never did. 9 conference games will be within conference and two games will be inter-conference.

Determine a true conference champion with a conference championship game. Winner goes to the big dance of 8 teams. Bowls will still be played to determine relative conference strengths (for those who still want something to argue about).

It would be entertaining and fair and QUITE profitable.
