The defense wins the day. Is anyone here surprised by that?

Of course not lol. We can always hope he was just taking it easy and vanilla to prevent injury but...oh well.

May be wrong but don't believe it was 1's versus 1's. Believe it was the #1 defense against the #2 offense and vice versa. So believe one offense won and one offense lost.

IC and RS gained about 177 yards on 25 carries (approx) against the #2 D.....that's a win in my book. The #1 D shut down the running game of the #2 offensive RB's.

Yeah it was #1 vs #2. The defensive stats that the AJC put up seemed pretty good. Not good that Samuels fumbled but you can't put much into the 1st scrimmage any way. This is why me and August have such a love/hate relationship. I love August because football is around the corner, but hate August because it takes soooo long to get to September. At this time of the year it's easy to put too much into scrimmages early on, plus that's what practice is for to work out the kinks. Better to know the kinks now and work on them then Sept 3rd.

The defense is always ahead of the offense early on.

averagedawg, I couldn't bait you. ;)

I actually agree with you. Offense requires a lot of timing and the plays can be more involved in terms of the overall tactics, so getting an offense up to speed should take a little longer. Knocking off the rust, or putting on the primer for the rookies, just takes some time. I wasn't surprised that the receivers had a rough day.

Also, I read AMs comments that they were only allowed 8 plays to run per drive, then turned over on downs, so no matter how good they did, they really couldn't finish off a drive. Don't know how much that played into it.

My main take away was that we at least have two backs who can be competent running it. Okay, Samuels fumbled, but it IS practice, and they have a little time to fix that. He's a big boy, so I think he has the strength to hold it eventually. I'm concerned about Boo though.
