Gaithers and Jenkins

Appears that we have two excellent players for the nose on defense this season.

Makes me happy, really like the fact that Gaithers is not giving anything up to Jenkins without a fight. ogredawg said that we have the real deal in Jenkins, have to agree. Notice that in next years NFL draft that Jenkins is already in the top 20 in the first round. Not having played one down in the SEC, tells me that ogredawg and others out there know this young players abilities.

Grantham has in his own way said that Gaithers is the real deal. Also said that both could end up playing together. If both are in football shape, would love to see that. Noticed one sportswriter mentioned Gaithers maybe playing defensive end. Why do that is my thinking. If both are going to play together, a front four line could be intimidating as all heck. Doesn't really change what the backers are going to do, won't or should not mess with their heads. If anything it is a pain in the butt for the opposing coaches trying to match up with the strength and size of the defensive line, along with the speed and size of our linebackers.

So, here is why I said what I did above. Jenkins leaves after one year, Gaithers just as good, why hang around. We could be in for a huge (pun not intended) disappointment if we lose one or two of these players. Looking over the roster, don't see a lot of players that either match the size or have come to the front as replacements. Could be awful in 2012 is the way that I see things.

A lot is expected of Jenkins coming to UGA this year. Young man has a lot on his shoulders. He knows that his ticket is made if he has a really good year, especially in the SEC. Smart move on his part coming to the SEC, leaves little doubt as to the competition level he will be competing against.

2012 scares me from a 3/4 standpoint. Grantham probably has his eyes on folks that we are not aware of at this point. Hope so. Grantham is apparently a 3/4 coach, meaning he prefers the 3/4 over the 4/3.

Really don't want to see UGA go up and down, love the ups hate the downs.

After I read the first part of your post Buc, it seemed as if my exact thoughts were being placed onto the post without me actually having to type them. I as well believe that Jenkins will be gone after 2011 IF he is as good as said to be. On the other hand, I thought that this years draft was the last draft before a CAP was put into play??? If so, then why not stay if your Jenkins and at least get a diploma from a highly credited university...I know I would, but I'm a dawg

born2bAdawg, nothing I would like better than to have both of these players stay in Athens. As far as the NFL, they don't have a clue at this point, groping for answers. They keep playing in the courts and they might look back and see just how little they know/knew about FOOTBALL.

I hope that this does not sound ugly, but . . . . apparently Jenkins has had some problems with the books. For him it will come down to whether or not the education will provide all of the things that he certainly wants to do for his family and friends. Don't think the degree will afford him that choice. Good Lord gave John Jenkins a body that excites folks on the football field. Chemistry, not sure . . . . .

NCAA can't make a decision that makes sense. Now we have the Feds poking their noses in this college football thingyyy. averagedawg, the beginning of the end. Or, the ending of what was once a good beginning. Makes one wonder why EDUCATION is not mentioned some of the time.

Since you mentioned it Buc, I'm just curious;

Why is the Department of Justice asking the NCAA why they don't have a playoff in Div. 1 football? I can understand why they might have an interest in baseball/football or other sports with regard to steroid use, but playoffs?

The only thing I can come up with AT ALL would be a concern over corruption and potential criminal activity resulting from monetary abuse in the bowls, i.e. the Fiesta bowl. But for them to ask why there is not a playoff is interesting. It almost seems as though they are thinking to themselves, "there is a playoff in every single sport out there, even college football, but just not THIS one. Follow the money."

Probably nothing will come of it, but just the fact that they are asking the question AT ALL, given the nature of the job they are tasked with, makes me think that perhaps something is brewing under the surface that we haven't even thought about.
