Different sites and media mentioning that Meyer is moving in the direction of working with ESPN. The same UM that said he was going to remove himself from football and spend time with the family. Appears that decision is not going to last much longer than his retirement decision last year. Beginning to think that UM has a split personality. Make that statement without my tongue in cheek.
I feel that he was really close to be relieved of his job with UF by none other than AD Foley. As much as UGA’s problems off of the field are/were discussed, UF’s problems were as bad if not worse. Also, with top ten recruiting classes each year, more is expected of the head coach.
Meyer arrived in Florida with a different style of football, foreign to the SEC and it took a while for the SEC to catch up with his system. Think back, SS did the same thing, changed UF’s system and had results right away. Now WM comes to lead the UF pack and he brings a different philosophy to UF. Did not take Foley long to replace the outgoing coach with Meyer, also SS had left the NFL and he was wanting his old job back. Foley had been around Spurrier long enough to know that the school could not have two huge egos. Same applies to Meyer and his short retirement from UF. Muschamp was hired too quickly for me to believe anything other than Foley let Meyer know that he was finished, especially after the season he just had. AD Foley was ready for change, and he will get that ten fold with Muschamp versus Meyer football. It will be interesting to watch the outcome of this hire. Florida fans can be brutal.
Seems a lot of teams had caught up with UM’s system and there did not appear to be any championships left with UM at the helm. Mullen beat Meyer, Spurrier beat Meyer, just one school that I can think of that can’t seem to deal with Meyer’s system. . . . .
Spin it any way that we want I guess, just know that things are not as presented. Foley knew that Alabama and Saban had UF’s number, and would continue to beat them with Meyer at the helm.
We hired a new AD at UGA, and he served for a long time under Foley. You work with and for someone that long, patterns develop. Foley is a tough ass, think that maybe we hired some of the same. Sometimes people in all walks of life get too comfortable and have to pay the price. I think Meyer did and believe that others in the profession need to pick up the pace or walk the same gang plank.
Merry Christmas to all on this board.
