Scam Newton saga

I believe I am getting this correct on the most recent events, the NCAA has ruled Cam eligible because he apparently knew nothing about his dad shopping him around. They clearly stated that Cecil admitted to trying to receive money for his son, but somehow he is still eligible.

I guess this is not weird to the NCAA. Cam wants to go to MSU. Doesn't go because apparently Aub made a better offer. MSU goes public with the information. The Newtons deny everything only to admit the Cecil did want cash. Now, Cam is eligible because there is no evidence that Aub paid Cecil or that Cam new anything about it. How hard is this to figure out.

Plus the rule does not say that the athlete must be aware of the unfair benefit, it states that if a family member or representative seeks an unfair advantage, that athlete is immediately ineligible. Funny how they pick their battles.

AllDawgs5, a short time back this board had a long and contested discussion about players and money. Now we see how ugly the game of college football can be sCamed by those that put their thinking caps on and beat the system. Anyone thinks that this is the end in my opinion are way out in left field. This is the beginning of corrupt college football as we know it with dollar amounts being hurled about, don't believe that we will ever see the game return completely to its original state.

One more note . . . Slive (Slime) is the epitome of BS. Read some of his statements, what a loser this commissioner is. Won't post his remarks yet, they are easy enough to find on the internet. If some of his remarks about this multi-thousand dollar sCam are not posted by others, I will come back and do so.

Difference between AJ and sCam is that AJ had the you know whats to speak honestly about what he had done. sCam did not know what his father had done, at his age, concerning his future, I truly have some land here in Florida that I will sell anyone that believes that. If it is true, this has to be the dumbest kid on the planet . . . seems he did have some problems at UF with grades and tests.

Of what importance are rules?
A slippery slope.
Makes you wonder what other money has changed hands.

averagedawg, I really believe that the flood gates have now been opened. NCAA has shifted from Amateur Athletics to basically a Professional Association. Bad decision for Amateur Athletics. It now becomes a bidding war for the prized athletes. Sad.

Yep, and pretty soon it will be the norm to start hearing about High Schools giving perks and/or $ to have athletes live in their district. At least Pop Warner league's still safe (for now).

The SMART era CONTINUES!!!!!!

Good points. Slive is just hot garbage. This whole situation has proven that the only thing consistant about the NCAA is inconsistency.

Newton is eligible, even though his father admitted he wanted money for his son's services. Are they foolish enough to believe that Aub didn't get in on the bidding war. Seriously, are they that stupid. Cam tells Mullen he wants to go to MSU, then calls him back stating that he won't be able too and the decision is not his. What do they think happened? I seriously hope this people are not allowed to reproduce. I just hope if I ever commit a felony, which I am sure will never happen, but if I were on trial, I would hope and pray I had these clowns for a jury. The NCAA is just oozing ignorance.

Did AJ know the guy he was selling his jersey to over facebook, or whatever online site, was an agent? This is gome random guy wanting to buy a jersey. Oh yeah, he happens to represent.... NO ONE. But since Cam didn't know his father was doing something, he is not punished. AJ misses 4 games, and not making excuses, but I think the games would have been different ball games had he been suited up.

Buc, you are right on. It is becoming sad. I mean his own father selling out his son. Hopefully, this is a learning experience for the nation.
