TULSA, Okla. -- Georgia senior Javier Garrapiz fell to Southern Cal's seventh-ranked Steve Johnson, 6-4, 6-2, in the championship match of the ITA All-American Championships consolation draw Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The loss snaps a four-match winning streak against ranked opponents for No. 14 Garrapiz, who defeated a pair of top-30 opponents in his run to the finals.
Next up, Georgia players will compete in the ITA Southeast Regional in Gainesville, Fla., beginning Oct. 22.

Georgia’s tandem of junior Nadja Gilchrist and freshman Lilly Kimbell enjoyed a solid run through the doubles consolation main draw at the ITA All-American Championships before falling in the final late Saturday.
The ninth-ranked Duke pair of Mary Clayton and Monica Gorny claimed the title with an 8-5 win over Gilchrist and Kimbell. When the Bulldog duo began play here last Friday, it was just their second career match together. Now they are 3-2 with all three wins over ranked teams.
This past Friday, they defeated the nation’s second-ranked doubles team, and on Saturday, they collected a win over the 12th-ranked team in the quarterfinals. Gilchrist and Kimbell showed their potential by beating Alabama’s second-ranked Alexa Gurachi and Courtney McLane 9-8(5). Then, they upset the 12th-ranked Virginia duo of Lindsey Hardenberg and Erin Vierra 8-6. In the semifinals, they got a walkover after Florida’s 18th-ranked team of Allie Will and Sofie Oye withdrew.
Georgia continues fall tournament action in two weeks when it will play host to the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships, Oct. 22-25. It is one of 12 regional championships being held this month around the country. The singles and doubles champions from each regional will advance to the 2010 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Championships, slated for Nov. 4-7 at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
