Getting it Right

Good Day,

“Getting it Right”.

If I remember correctly this winter/spring we on this blog shared how our football team and coaches had to work to “Get It Right”.

After waiting to long CMR cleared the deck with his defense coaching staff.

Then the long extended wait to see who was to be selected to restore the GATA fire in our defense.

We waited and waited some more. The Kirby’s came and went and we were sure we would be left with out a prize. We waited.

In one flash during our first game after a blown coverage, we knew that the fire had come out of the ashes and our defense was going to get better and better with each passing week and season. The wait paid off. CMR got it right.
.
Who would start at QB? ZM made a bad choice and that opened the door for AM. I am sure you remember AM was the #2 Rivals QB in the country.
He will improve with each game and season. CMR got it right.

A late night trip to a bar and fate brought us a new AD one who understands winning in the SEC and is a man of honor and his word. This will prove huge in the coming years. The university got this one right.

Just a sidebar comment-From a good source here in Athens both CMR and MB wanted to play AM last year. AM’s arm problem and further possible injury tipped the hand to using a RS year. Looking at AM this year after his summer camp you can see the difference in him from the spring G-Game.
CMR got it right.

Cut down the stupid flags and turnovers. In the first three games we can see progress in both of these areas. AM may be holding the ball to long, but he is not throwing Int’s as JC did. AM will get better JC was as good as he ever would be. Coaches and players are working to get this right in every game.

Now before any of you jump off a building screaming look at all the stuff we didn’t get right- tackling-blocking- holding on to the football-dumb play calling –lack of effort-poor coaching –and mostly winning the damn game! All true….

Winning ugly beats losing pretty every time.

This year and every year the wins are important. It is what a program success is measured by. (Quality wins not beating cupcakes).

However in our case “Getting it Right” for the present and for our future carry a higher priority than wins this season. Plan to win the war not just one battle.

Getting it Right for CMR may lead to a change of OC’s in the future. It won’t take him as long with MB as it did with WM. Having MS and KM would make any OC look good. JC and now AM without a tailback the caliber of KM makes a world of difference. Saying this not as an excuse but an observation.

ESPN – Georgia’s football head coach fired. AD hires winning SEC (152-52) coach with a NC ring. Phil Fulmer takes over to “Get things Right” at Georgia. He will coach in Starkville this Saturday.

At the end of this season we can look at what was and what is needed to change to “Get it Right”

There are still many chapters left in this season’s book. Lets see how the play out. Keep the axe sharp at all times.

yankeedawg1, always like reading your posts/comments.
Here are a few of my thoughts.

Coach Richt had some issues that none of us want to go through, family issues. If it were me, and I had to go through what he and the family have been through, probably would have serious problems controlling myself. Mrs. Richt has been nothing less than a trooper. On the sidelines with her Coach Husband and the entire UGA football team. Now she is spending her time watching her son play football, what a great Mom.

Coach Richt has tried to fix the defense. Good with that.

Now we are faced with the offensive side of the ball.

Coach Richt made a poor decision hiring WM as DC. Appears to many that he made a poor decision promoting MB to be his OC.

It is really hard for me to understand how you promote MB to the top, top of the offensive side of the ball and leave him there. Listen, these coaches did the same things that some of us did . . . . played high school football, college football, some, pro. Where does that give Coach Richt the right to say, folks out there just don't understand the game? Not sure that I will ever get past that comment. Not true, probably will if Coach gets his cleats in the ground again, he is only half way there.

Coach Richt is facing a huge game against Miss State. This might be the defining game of his coaching career at UGA. For sure those that are wanting a change, will crawl all over his bottom if we don't win. This is an SEC game that CMR needs to step up from the get go, not the third or fourth quarter.

Allow me this question . . . .

If you are going to recruit a QB that played in a spread offense most of his high school career, why do you try and put that young man in a pro style offense. His high school coach had him in a spread, was very effective. State Damn Champions in a state that it is hard to be STATE DAMN CHAMPIONS, rated in the top 5 QB's in the country.

Now some of the talk is that AM is only 5'11" or whatever. So, why sign this young man if he cannot see over the OL and DL players? Want him to step up in the pocket because that is what he is doing wrong. Give me a damn break, whether that is MB or Coach Richt. Guess that is why they signed a young QB that is 6'5" or so, now what do you do . . . according to MB and I suppose CMR, keep this DWARF in the pro style offense. Total stupidity. What do these two coaches know that none of us know? Are they that far advanced?

OK, so Coach Richt is a good guy. ALL OF US SAY THAT. At the end of this football season, let us see whether or not we sign some of these players from Columbus and other areas.

Go Dawgs, beat Miss State, need this one. . . . . probably will not be televised for all to see, television only puts the top games on for all of us. Time to go to work.

This site pretty much tells the story yankeedawg1. Notice this Dwarf/Little Person inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986.

Same height as AM. :)

Buc, totally agree with you about a "certain style" of the spread. I don't have much of a problem with the pro style offense, actually love that style but the "spread" I would like to see isn't the conventional "spread" like UF but more of the passing spread. Keep 3-4 WR's in the game 75% of the time and flood the secondary......you can incorporate that with a "pro-style" offense at the same time. I'm not a proponent in seeing AM run the ball 10-15 times a game like UF's spread, he can't stand the pounding.

I'm assuming the WR spread is the offense you are speaking of.
