Game Day Friday # 2 in Athens

Good Morning,

Monday 09/13/10:

After our lost to SC our blog postings went the rainbow on what went wrong.

The “Blame Storming” just about covered everything. I was sure that someone would call out that we did not have our starting water girl (CMR wife). She has taken the season off to watch her son play QB at Mars Hill. This had much more of an impact that not having AJ.

We stunk it up! Players-Coaches-Band- Cheerleaders. I think the team bus driver even messed up parking the bus.

Let’s start a move to bring WM & Evans back; at least we beat SC last year with both of them.

Does anyone know how to get 12 year old bourbon in two weeks?

This will not be a fun week of practice with CTG? Look forward to see what changes have been made. Love to be a fly on the wall, maybe not as that might be a safe place.

Just funning about bringing back Pete & Repeat! Last year it was OSU and this SC, both away games. We got outplayed and had our butts handed to us on a platter. Slow starters?

I am not saying it is going to take 12 years for us to see the improvement we want but the timeline is going to take a tad longer than two weeks.

Growing up in upstate NY watching Syracuse in the days of Jim Brown-Ernie Davis and Larry Csonka.

They would win running the ball 4 yards and a cloud of dust at a time. Fans and alumni bitched that it was boring to watch. Rather throw the ball 30 times a game and lose. One of my early lessons in human nature.

Mid-Week:

After days of venting our frustrations our blog moved away from the past and started looking forward to being home and beating the Hogs.

Lots of passion in The Bulldog Nation! There is no finer 12th man in college football.

The last time we lost to SC (07) we went on a tear and went to the Sugar Bowl and ended the season ranked # 2. We will see how history starts to play out at Noon on Saturday.

CTG did not wait until next year to return the jab from SS. Love it! We are going to see good no make that great things in the future from our defense. Just give him time to recruit and coach the horses he needs.

Seems we turned the contact up in practice. We may not have Branden Smith as result. I am sure he was not the only one who was feeling the pain.

Friday:

The only thing that will get the vinegar taste out of our mouth is a solid beating of the Hogs. Improvement and a win will cure our collective malaise. Most important: Improvement it is imperative!

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Sadly many of our children and grandkids have no clue of the meaning of these words.

Going to public school for 13 years, this was taught to me in kindergarten and we stood and faced the flag everyday. Is the flag even in the classrooms today?

Progress – me thinks not.

Wish you all a safe and great weekend. As always “Go Dawgs”

Again, look forward to your Athens report.

I also watched Ernie Davis do his magic. Tragic end for this incredible football player and person.

Jim Brown, always seemed to be a bit on edge, however he made the Browns. Best I remember, he did not wear hip pads.

Csonka, man among boys.

yankeedawg1, we need this game with Arkansas. If we play to our strengths and not theirs, good things can and will happen. Interesting day for the offense and what AM is "allowed" to do.

Go Dawgs!!

Buc , As always spot on about Jim Brown and no hip pads. One of my early stories about JB was the Browns playing the NYG in the old Polo Grounds with Sam Huff playing MLB.
Huff was trash talking JB about how bad he stunk. JB ran over SH for a 50 plus yard TD.

While in the end zone JB asked SH how do I smell from here ! Have a great and safe weekend. Hope this is the game the Dawgs truly come off the chain !

Thanks yd1 - as always look forward to your post

Yes we did loose to sc and tenn in 07 and went on to be one of the best teams in the country by the end of the year - the diff is we had a very good rb named moreno - I think we have the potential to win this game - the coaches have to have a good game plan and be abel to adjust to the game and the players have to execute

If we had just beaten those chickens in 07 - the way we were playing at the end of the year - we would have beaten lsu and os and been national champs

Just finished watching last years UGA/Arkansas game. Had forgotten how many penalties were called, really bad on both sides.

If their coverage has not improved, our chances are very good. Although they had two on AJ for most of the game. When they did not double cover, AJ ate them alive, open constantly. Our other receivers and Cox really benefited from AJ's presence.

Richard Samuel looked really good, he hit the line full speed and was a load to tackle. Haven't seen a lot of that thus far from our backs. Of course, one has been dinged up, another suspended for a game, and apparenty Carlton Thomas is not quite making the grade to tote the pigskin a lot. Drop the ball, drop playing time.

When we did get pressure on their QB, we were very effective. Everytime that he had to move his feet, not set, did not look good at all and he continued to throw the ball. Think that it was kentdaddy again that said if we get pressure on him, game changes. After watching today, taking into consideration what Coach Grantham has said about "attacking defense" think that is the way. Know that "Get out of town Petrino" loves to throw the ball, so, looks like a classic matchup of offensive and defensive coaches.

Did watch our DB's and safties, they were truly lost. Passes being completed without our backs having a clue where the ball was. Taught that way . . . right.

Any improvement with this years team, we beat Arkansas. Hope that the Oline comes to block and WE comes to play. Will definitely need a better job punting this week.

Just releasing tension on the keyboard, starting to really feel the urgency of tomorrows game.

Sticking with a victory, two TD's.

Arkansas is not the 13th best team in the nation. They are a one trick pony, and that pony aint all that tricky. I was scared of the SCU game all year and I got proven right. What I've learned, though, is that sometimes we need a kick in the arse to get right. We got that. I'll bet...BET we see a whole different animal tomorrow. Dawgs by 14. Mallet sees a lot of the Athens sky from his back.
