David Greene to Murray

One of Greene’s messages to Murray echoed what Richt and Bobo say: Don’t be a hero.

“The thing I told him and really the same thing Coach Richt told me is you don’t have to go out there and try to win games for us,” Greene said. “We have enough players around us to win games. I just needed to go out there, run our offense, distribute the ball so the guys could go out there and make plays.”

Greene, who held the record for most wins by a college quarterback with 42 until Texas’ Colt McCoy broke it, said winning games often comes down to not doing things that cause your team to lose.

“Quarterbacks a lot more times they lose a lot more games than they win,” Greene said. “It’s our job to go out there and protect the football, put the team in the right plays to be successful and go out there and lead and play as hard as you can.”

oledawg, figure that is exactly what AM will do this year. (Let the game come to him). An added benefit to AM is that he does have wheels. Folks that have never seen AM play will see that he is truly an athlete. If the opposing defenses are going to blitz on this young QB a lot, could bite them square in the butt. AM is a very intelligent QB, picks up on tendencies quickly. Am I looking forward to AM this year . . . . I guess . . . :woohoo: :woohoo:

David's senior year he appeared to be playing not to lose. Not taking as many chances as he had in his previous years. Maybe that's the patience part. The worry this year is that wheels are a good thing IF you don't get hurt. Who is behind AM on the depth chart. Shockley was a good example, good QB with wheels until the Arkansas game. Can you imagine what might have happened that year if he didn't get his knee twisted? The UF game that year I don't know how many UF fans said to me that if Shockley had been QB instead of JT III they would have been in deep trouble because they didn't have an answer to his running skills. Definitely keeping my fingers crossed on avoiding the injury bug this year.

oledawg, don't mean to imply that AM will be pulling a Tarkenton on us. Those QB sacks come a lot easier if the signal caller can be found in the same area most of the game, as you know I am sure. He does have the ability to move around in the pocket, and he is a strong youg man.

I too hope that we don't have a serious QB injury, or any other member of the team either. Thoughts of Sturdivant come to mind . . . ouch. Really put the offensive line in a quandry for quite a while.

Of course there are a lot of teams in the SEC that would fall on hard times if they lost their quarterback. As for the backup, appears to me that we are going to have a true Freshman in the number two slot. Can't really see Logan Gray coming back this year for any length of time at the position. Think that the offensive coaches are pushing hard to get that number two slot further along, and quickly at that.

Agreed! QB this year is really thin. Being able to move out of the way will be an asset.

oledawg, I find interesting what will occur in the next two years on campus. CL coming in highly touted, appears there is going to be some serious competition at QB, competition with young men that "want" to play. I like it, best man wins.

Also think that CMR really has to get this offense back into gear, hit a bit of a snag last season. Top to bottom last year had way too many problems at way too many positions. Can really feel Coach Richt remodeling himself, and that is great news for UGA. Coach Richt can coach QB's, has before and will again with this young group that he has.

I am excited about the many changes made at UGA in the football area. Think that the defense is really going to surprise ALL of us. If we can keep these young whipper snappers out of trouble, offensive side of the ball will do the same. Too much talent on the offensive side not to be a major headache for EVERYONE we play.

Some say next year, with our schedule, why not this year . . . . time will certainly tell.
