Big kid. Might be a sleeper.
Chris Mayes from Spalding High School in Griffin told Georgia coaches of his decision on Saturday, he told both Scout.com and Rivals.com
Mayes picked the Bulldogs over Miami, Louisville and Oklahoma State.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Mayes could end up playing in one of Georgia's end positions or at nose, Spalding coach Clint Ashmore said Sunday.
Ashmore had not talked to Mayes since the decision, but has talked to Bulldogs defensive coordinator Todd Grantham about how Mayes would fit in Georgia's 3-4 scheme.
"I think a lot of what they like is he's got all the measurables and not an ounce of fat on the kid," Ashmore said. "He's put together really well. This is his only his second year of football, so you've got a lot left in terms of the learning curve. He's a guy you can take and still do a lot with and mold."
Mayes is rated a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 45 defensive tackle by Scout.com.
He becomes the 16th commitment for Georgia and 12th from within the state.
