Bubba is the man. But the story has to be about Dustin Johnson. I felt absolutely terrible for the kid. I believe the PGA dropped the ball on this one. Rules are Rules, I guess, but just imagine how big of an impact it would have made if he actually made the par putt.

Actually the PGA did NOT drop the ball. They had signs posted ALL week in the clubhouse/locker room about the bunker situations out on the course. They had constant warnings about shapes, sizes and the spectators having to walk through many of them because they were everywhere (over 1000). Since the PGA posted signs everywhere about the situations out on the course, DJ should have asked an official if there was ANY doubt......especially at that point in time!!!!!

Feel really bad for DJ......good guy.

That is kind of the point. I don't think that DJ had any doubt when he was hitting the shot. Just like he said, he didn't think it was a bunker. Heck, everyone out there didn't think it was a bunker. Watched the on course reporter even state that it just looked like a dirt patch. If you are going to have bunkers on a course, there should be no question on whether or not it is a bunker.

I can see your point though. Rules are rules, and he did admit to not reading the flyers. He is the one that hit it there in the first place. My only question is: if he did identify it as a bunker, would he have been allowed to rake the area where the gallery was at?

Yes, I believe he would have been allowed to rake the area because of the spectators. Ultimately, especially in golf, YOU are responsible. Golf is a self regulating, no excuses, play by the rules sport. IF you aren't sure.....make sure.

ok guys as a golf professional here is how DJ should have handle the situation. (The rules official walking with the group is there for two things. 1. to make sure you play by the rules and 2. if you have any rules questions he is there to answer them.. if you have any doubt of the rule he is there to ask.) he only had to turn to the official and ask if this thing is a bunker. As we all found out DJ dropped the ball by not reading the rules sheet. STUPID STUPID STUPID... your tought in jr. golf to read the rule sheet everytime. thats how spoiled the guys get out there, they start taking things for granted but with this happening i bet they pay close attention fro now on. I just hate that it happened on such a huge stage.

really thought Bubba's 2nd shot on 18 was smart. there was no doubt i thought he couldnt get there from that lie. it didn't look that bad and he is strong enough to get it on the green. very disappointed that he lost. i love his emotion on and off the course.

On another golf note.. a kid i have watched since he was 10 years old is a freshman on the UGA golf team this year.. Keep up with this yound Dawg fellas his name is Keith Mitchell he will be a great addition to the team and the univeristy.

I agree with all the points that you guys have made. I just don't know how they would have told him that if he would have made the putt. Luckily, he didn't. I enjoy playing golf, and I definitely agree that if you are going to play, you have to play by the rules.

He should have asked the rules offical like he had been doing all day. And, I think everyone agrees that he should have read the flyers that were posted all over the locker room. I was just sick for the guy. I can't imagine what would have happened if he would have made the putt. Guys like him and Bubba are doing nothing but helping golf. Those guys are awesome examples. DJ showed a lot of class. I just wished the media would focus more on those guys, and less on the player that can't keep his club in the bag. :P

I can't remember watching golf when there were so many great young players.

The rules are the rules. And you're right; golf will be fun to watch with this group in the mix.
