Georgia graduate and Athens native Greg McGarity confirmed Thursday that he has applied for the athletics director job at his alma mater, but did not want to say much more
"I'm just going through the process," McGarity, the Florida associate athletics director, said when reached at home.
McGarity was among 49 people who have applied for the job, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which obtained the information under an Open Records Act Request.
Jim Steeg, who ran the Super Bowl for years and recently stepped down as president of the San Diego Chargers, also applied.
Georgia has not set a timetable for finding a replacement for Damon Evans, who resigned after a DUI arrest in July. The school has set up a six-person search committee.
McGarity has worked at Florida since 1992. His duties currently include helping
