GatorInGa, you also have to look at where those teams end up. USC got a definite bump from how well Arkansas did down the stretch. Oregon State finished the season ranked, and Boise State beat them. Oklahoma was only ranked lower than BSU because they had two losses(how in the WORLD did LSU get ranked so high? no disrespect, but come on. Florida EMBARRASSED them), one of which was the stolen Oregon game.
Boise State also beat a very good(11-win) and ranked Hawai'i team that would have won the WAC had they beaten BSU. Fresno State had a down year, but it's still a rivalry game. Want bowl teams? Boise State beat Oregon State(bowl winners), San Jose State(bowl winners), Hawai'i(bowl winners) and Nevada, who took Miami down to the final seconds in a 21-20 loss. Want boundaries overcome? How about a first-year coach and injuries, including one that took Ian Johnson out of the final few games?
This is not to mention the fact that they beat 7th-ranked Big XII Champions Oklahoma(!) in a BCS bowl on national television. Come on. BYU won the Holiday Bowl in DECEMBER and won the National Championship. This is a 1/1 bowl here, the Fiesta Bowl, over a 7-time champion.
I'm not disparaging Florida or the SEC. I'm just saying that regardless of your conference, it's difficult to go undefeated. In 2004 Boise made it through undefeated...and lost in the Liberty Bowl to a Louisville team that ALSO could have gone undefeated but for a last-second loss to Miami.
Mainly, I just hate the BCS. I hate Florida, and don't want them to win, but neither do I want violation-plagued (and strangely uninvestigated and unpunished) Ohio State to win after their easy romp through the weak Big X. So here's what I want. I want Florida to win by one point if AND ONLY IF it means that the AP votes for Boise State as its national champion. Then and only then, will you truly be the one. Or something like that. But the BCS will be completely screwed at that point.
